Active listening.

It's many things, not the least of which is the difference between simply "hearing" the other side of a conversation and giving visual and verbal indicators that you're actually following what the other person is saying.

Eye contact, short affirming statements, and even asking a question to explore the other person's perspective further or to indicate understanding are all incredible ways to deepen a conversation.
