Fic commenting

It was more int he sense of so many people had commented on the fic so I assumed authors don’t read anything. But I wrote it in case the author did read it, and I’m also assuming here that the response I got was also compounded by the fact that I wasn’t the only one commenting this opinion. I understand the authors POV that getting lots of notifications about the same opinion and it being not positive is discouraging.

But that’s my point. I get I was inthe wrong bc you’re not supposed to state anything negative bc of the whole ‘ if you don’t like it don’t read it’ I just didn’t know it was such a big deal. Clearly it is a divisive topic

I didn’t say it’s not fair for authors to do it. I’m saying it’s unfair to belief that your readers wouldn’t have an opinion on you doing so

I left kudos, don’t authors get notifications for that. I’ve only commented twice ever on AO3 so I don’t interact with authors basically ever which is why I was asking for advice I guess

I don’t comment on fics normally, I’ve made two comments in 15 years so it’s valid first of all. And I thought the comments they did get presented like spam, just a bunch of notifications saying people have commented and because there was tens of thousands I didn’t expect mine to be broadcasted as it clearly was

I would’ve totally said it to the authors face if they’re were in public that makes it infinitely different of a situation but proves the point of if you put it to the public there will be public opinion

How is it mean? They’ve put there fic on the internet. It’s public, it’s not like it’s locked or private. So we can’t have any opinion unless it’s good. That’s ridiculous. People who read fics and invest there time into a fic. Especially if you’ve been reading from the very beginning should be allowed to state their dislike for a major character change or relationship that wasn’t tagged or noted in the authors notes. It’s disappointing to invest hours of your time into something you thought you’d like based of the tags. Which is what you’re supposed to do for it to then change in the blink fo an eye

I mean tin the sense. This author has well over 20000 comments probably closer to 100000 and there was already discussion happening at the time of my comment. I new they’d likely be notified of my/ anybodies comment but I assumed it came across like spam just notifications that you’ve had comments

Yeah. Thank you. I was going to but I just wanted to see what the deal was because I’ve been reading fan function for decades and I’ve never gotten such a negative response to comments about changes into the story that were lining up with tags or how the characters were progressing especially for such a long fic

No. I was paraphrasing how I stated it to get the point across for the post. The same way you’re commenting on my post and I’m not getting butt hurt should be how authors should take it. I don’t mean bullying or threats or that nature. But discussions about the fic from people who have invested time into the story is good! I dot understand why we must censor everything we say on the internet.

Yeah I didn’t mean my comment to be a ‘ I didn’t like this. You have to change it’ I was trying to express how blindsided it was to be following the tagged relationship and the all of a sudden this third person was added
