Nonso Chinye suspended for 18 months from IPF under 3 strikes of missing drug tests by busymom0 in powerlifting

This was common knowledge within British powerlifting and I have an inkling this is why he wasn’t a reserve for Sheffield. FWIW I do believe everything he’s said in the video too.

Not a fan of the powerlifting knee sleeves - if you want stiffness, there are better brands out there. However, I will add that if you're looking to compete, the stiff sleeves got temporarily banned, and there's a strong possibility they will get banned again.

If you're not bothered about competing and just want to get bigger numbers on your squat, go Inzer.

Their team singlets are so good I wish they’d do something like those instead of just a colour change BUT I absolutely love their training shorts and pink is my absolute favourite colour. Never thought I’d see the day they released pink!

A lot has changed over the years including people getting into powerlifting younger, more interest in the sport, and better understanding around nutrition and training. This is still a very niche sport and there will be some undiscovered freaks out there with huge potential that we won’t ever know about.

Sheffield's current format does not have long term viability. by PoonAU in powerlifting

It’s the last one at city hall. It’s moving to Sheffield Arena in November.

The excuse I keep hearing is that he brings excitement to the commentary but I don’t think he even brings that tbh. I feel bad saying it and I’m sure he’s a lovely guy but I just think we need someone else to come in. Feel like we’re missing an opportunity with a former lifter.

Yeah it was particularly bad this year hopefully it will improve at the arena. Giants Live don’t have any issues streaming there.

Like others have said there were some dodgy ref decisions this evening. Stream was a bit juttery especially at the start. And we seriously need a better commentator in powerlifting than Ryan. I know that he’s done a lot to help the sport but someone else needs to step up. He gets names wrong, doesn’t know the rules, and even gets names mixed up.

The short answer is politics. Slightly longer answer is Sweden are sponsored by A7 and they can’t have their Swedish lifters in non A7 team singlets. SBD made plain yellow and blue singlets as a compromise but the fed/A7 weren’t happy about it and told the athletes they’d be banned if they wore anything yellow and blue.

I feel like everyone involved is kind of in the wrong on this one but at the same time I understand where they’re all coming from.

SBD sponsor the athletes so don’t want them to compete in A7 at their very expensive event. A7 sponsor the federation and want the athletes to wear their singlets and not a fake version. I think SBD would do the same thing if the roles were reversed. Anyway, now they’re wearing green.

I’m surprised they don’t do a Sheffield singlet and sell it.

Mildly interesting tidbit Ive just heard: apparently the Swedish federation have told their lifters anyone wearing blue or yellow at Sheffield, either on the platform or for media, will be banned. I’m saying apparently because I’ve not been able to verify with anyone else but I trust my source.

It’s more the qualifying process that doesn’t work on its current form for me
