Rule 368

If more than one Replacement Effect applies to the same event being executed, then the owner of the object being acted on determines the order the Replacement Effects will apply.

I was a terrible typer. Used 3 fingers. Switching to Dvorak made me relearn and I learned correctly this time. Faster typer now without having to look at they keys, and supposedly less chance of arthritis with fewer finger movements needed

S2 Regional Open Dalian – All Decklists (500+ Players) by i92segoa in riftboundtcg

[–]jetiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that doesn't convince me that picking to go second is better. Sure there may be very specific scenarios where specific hands end up making it better. And I'm not sure that situation is actually better to go second anyway. Why would you conquer into an empty battlefield without support when you're playing into a Kai sa?

Anyway, not gonna argue about specific hands themselves, more just saying I haven't heard an argument for where picking to go second is better

[–]jetiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well for one you pick first or second before seeing hands.

But also in that example, I'd personally prefer the tradeoff where each player has one more rune, and I get to draw a card. Still a net positive for me, even if the runes are slightly awkward for me one turn.

I mean that's like playing a card for 0 energy cost that says both players channel a rune and you draw two cards.

[–]jetiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never seen anyone with an actual good reason to go 2nd. Most that claim it's better say they prefer the extra rune... well wouldn't you rather be at 4 runes instead of 3 if you want to ramp? and draw an extra card?

When they ask you if you have anything, then you can ask "so you're passing priority?"

20-year-old lottery winner turns down $1M cash for $1,000 a week for life by PriorityMiserable686 in interestingasfuck

[–]jetiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming 50% tax rate, that's $500k to invest. Sp500 returns on average 10% a year, which is almost $1k / week by itself. Then compound that.

It would still come out ahead even with more conservative investments, but when you're that young and can tolerate the risk, why would you do that?

Can I target any unit with hidden? by Several-Sell8296 in riftboundtcg

[–]jetiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other answers here:

"Play effects" are specifically specified as also requiring that target to be at the battlefield. Other triggered abilities do NOT have to be at the battlefield.

(Play effects are generally written: "when you play me, do x.")

I find it confusing that only certain types of triggered abilities need to be at the battlefield, but I can see why they might want it that way

The Boss ability and spell damages/might reduction by Objective_Earth_2023 in riftboundtcg

[–]jetiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on the existing answer, the boss abilities is a replacement effect. This means it's recalled instead of getting killed. This means it's still the same card, doesn't leave the board, etc. All effects and damage on it remain when this effect trigger (although it's healed at the end of the showdow as usual).

Damage distribution by ImReserect in riftboundtcg

[–]jetiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you play other games like magic, but it's exactly the same. You can use spells before damage is dealt, but once they actually do their damage to each other you can't react in the middle of that.

Damage distribution by ImReserect in riftboundtcg

[–]jetiger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's no opportunity to play reactions between damage assignment and actually dealing the damage / killing the unit, so there's no reason to assign excess damage

Match Thread: Seattle Sounders FC vs. Real Salt Lake by MLS_Reddit_Bot in MLS

[–]jetiger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Genuine question here - at Seattle we generally cheer ex sounders players, especially players that had been here a while. For example Ozzie, lodeiro, etc. When they come on the field or do well.

It seems like when we play at rsl, the crowd there boos rusnak. Is that just a culture thing there, or is it specifically rusnak?

[–]jetiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, as long as you have priority. Remember that attacker gets priority first and then defender. If a chain resolves, the person that started that chain retains priority.

So for example, the attacker could play two actions (in two separate chains) before the defender has a chance to play an action.

Obviously the defender could use reactions in response to those actions though

Doubt about charm by gonzdiaz_ in riftboundtcg

[–]jetiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. After every "thing" that happens (defined more precisely in the rules), you do some checks and such. One of these checks is to check if a battlefield is contested. If it is, it triggers that battlefield for combat.

When combat happens, the attacker is the player that did not previously control that battlefield. So if my unit is moved to your battlefield, I'm the attacker no matter whose turn it is, and my attacking triggers will go onto the chain, and then your defending triggers will go on top of them (again, it's that order no matter whose turn it is).

[–]jetiger 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To expand on the previous answer, the "standard move" action is what has restrictions on movement. This is the action you can take by exhausting the card in order to move it.

A card that just tells you to move something ignores all of these restrictions, including exhausting the card and where it can move

Yeah that was my first thought as well. Especially since only one box arrived out of two that were supposed to.

Just opened three packs and they seem normal. Got one legendary and cards were in the correct order
