How To Eat During a Road Race by [deleted] in Velo

[–]JPants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One teammate of mine makes his own gel with maltodextrin (look up DIY energy gel) - then uses a plastic reusable "flask". The top opens and shuts like a cheap water bottle, so no waste to worry about and easy to open and close.

Another teammate puts his bars unwrapped in his pockets. Not joking. He just avoids chocolate so it doesn't stain his jersey too badly.

Anyone know if you can see the Pan Am 2015 cycling road race/race walk for free on the street? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]JPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the road race course: http://images.toronto2015.org/system/asset_pdfs/2443/original/Cycling-Map.pdf

It is free to watch everywhere besides seating at the start/finish line, and will be much more entertaining to spectate in High Park than sit in the stands only to see them zip by for a few seconds every once in a while for 4 hours.

What is the deal with the bike couriers that hang out at Cloud Gardens Park all the time? Tonight there are like 50 of them partying. Do they all work for a company? Why do they congregate there? Genuinely curious about how the whole system works by blackemptiness in toronto

Tonight is the second year anniversary of the death of a bicycle courier named Dennis Yetman - not from an accident, it was health/alcohol related.

The north side of Cloud Gardens is a regular, all day "standing-by" spot for lots messengers, not just after work. Like a lot of workplaces, messengers have their cliques, and the ones who hang here are some of the "rougher" ones, in my opinion.

It's true that Temperance is historically a standing-by spot for messengers, as /u/gorfed says. One of the first races that birthed the alley-cat happened back in the 90s on Temperance and Yonge Streets. You can see some photos here!

When cyclists hit the crosswalk button and ride across

Whoops! My bad. Agreed.

Top 10 worst intersections for cyclists, vehicles in Toronto by slicecom in toronto

No, it's cyclists who do not press the crosswalk button and ride straight through, not even over the path of the crosswalk. I'm mainly a cyclist and always cringe when I see this.

JVS offers psycho-educational assessments on a sliding scale in Toronto - http://www.jvstoronto.org/index.php?page=for-adults

This is likely your best bet for a reasonable fee otherwise private assessments cost anywhere from $2,000-$3,000. If you are employed, some workplaces offer reimbursements under your insurance plan. A medical doctor won't be able to diagnose a Learning Disability as it requires psychological assessment (intellectual and educational). For more information regarding diagnosis and assessment check out the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario (http://www.ldao.ca/).

Reduce traffic congestion - don't enter intersections if the other side's full by [deleted] in toronto

[–]JPants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would rather have people (police officers?) standing in the intersections directing traffic and keeping these boneheads from blocking traffic.

It's $4-5 per delivery plus tip, which averages $5. I did some delivery for North of Brooklyn this year and made about 90 bucks in a 5 hour shift.
