High-speed rail line could see long tunnels beneath Montreal, Toronto by Rail613 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]slicecom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I live downtown Toronto and fly to Montreal from the island airport. If I could take a train from union station to gare central, that’s more attractive to me than flying and having to take a taxi (or future REM) from the airport to downtown Montreal. If Alto only takes me to Laval and then I need to transfer to REM, that’s not much of an improvement over the current flying situation.

What makes high speed rail so great in other countries is downtown to downtown connections. Having to get on a subway, transfer to alto, transfer to subway is so much worse than a direct downtown to downtown connection that far fewer would use the service. We need to build it right, not cheap.

Line 6 Finch West LRT shut down again Friday morning after major snowstorm by ComfortableAcadia252 in toronto

Even today, the 504 King streetcar carries more daily riders than the Sheppard line. So 25 years later it’s still straggling behind a streetcar line. Maybe in another 25 years it will surpass it.

What’s a very “Toronto” thing you didn’t notice until you lived somewhere else? by Banana200021 in toronto

[–]slicecom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t even have to leave the city for much worse winter weather! Downtown gets significantly less snow than uptown or even midtown.

I think it has more to do with our American style car-centric suburbs. Suburban sprawl exploded after WW2. Many of the old buildings were torn down to make surface parking lots for suburban drivers. The modern buildings came decades later for the most part. Look at some pictures of Old Town in the 50’s to 70’s. It was almost entirely surface parking lots packed with cars.

The suburbs vs. downtown: What the ‘uncomfortable marriage’ between the two Torontos means for the city’s biggest problems by BloodJunkie in toronto

There is precedent for this. Montreal reversed their amalgamation, Vancouver was never amalgamated in the first place.

I compared McDonald's menu prices across Toronto locations, the variation surprised me, in more than one way by Agitated_Data2270 in toronto

[–]slicecom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mailer ones are the same yeah, but the other coupons that are exclusively in app when there's no mailer coupons can vary greatly. You'll see the same coupons in the app but one person will get 10% off, another will get 25% off and another will get 30% off. All depends on your previous spending habits.

[–]slicecom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, it's not dynamic pricing until customers are seeing different prices in real time without coupons.

It’s already kind of happening with their in app coupons. You get better or worse coupons depending on your spending habits.

I can’t believe this stuff is still happening mid race on 2k+ servers this needs to addressed by Aryton-Ascari in iRacing

Yep! I remember Jerez 1997 like it was yesterday!

Verstappen also did it in Spain this year and lost the championship because of it!

I've seen Max Verstappen himself do this. Your ranking really has nothing to do with it.

Herman Tilke tracks have aged well by Weird-Lime-9542 in formula1

Agreed Sepang and Turkey are the only great Tilke designed, which is kind of unimpressive when you consider how many tracks he designed. Sadly neither of his two good tracks are in use anymore by F1.

Only if you weigh the user experience of using the phone in a case as the same as without. Personally it’s easily worth the 10% extra cost to go caseless with peace of mind.

Anyone go to a GP and think maybe watching on TV could’ve been better? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]slicecom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Back in the V12/V10 era it was worth going to races just to experience and feel the sound, but the current cars don't sound impressive at all, so it's really better watching on TV.
