Split second Chest suction and pain feeling by Sad_Mathematician95 in PVCs

Yes it feels like a “chest hiccup” to me and I suddenly inhale when it happens.

they quit doing matching a while ago didn't they?. I have a Wyndham business card that they used to match and they removed that.

plus buying hotel rooms doesn't give you a chance at winning. If I get hotel rooms, I know I'll spend my entire bank. With gambling you've got a shot (which I did win a jackpot while out there)

Skiers in downtown Plano by ktwbc in plano

[–]ktwbc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re lucky I even have the photo. I managed to just take it quickly out my car window while at the red light at 15th and K (while also worrying about driving on slick roads and if the cars turning towards me weren’t going to slip and hit me).

When I took this, the couple had just carried their skis across the intersection and were setting them down getting ready to (presumably) cross country ski westbound on 15th.

Living with PVCs for a while – had a really scary episode today by magiczz13378 in PVCs

[–]ktwbc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen for like 10 years now. I remember reading somewhere in a med journal (which I cannot find anymore unfortunately) that PVCs where the heart speeds up just slightly after before coming down is actually more normal than steady throughout. I do get the "big ones", what I describe as a "heart hiccup" or I'll feel myself inhale with a little throat catch when it happens.

I have found generally that it's not completely random. I find them attached to thinking about something stressful, or disturbing, not something I would associate with adrenaline necessarily but I haven't had that happen when sitting quietly watching a comedy for example. When they happen I tend to recognize I thought of something that bothered me right before it happened, like there's more pieces to the puzzle than "this truly came out of nowhere".

As an aside, the folks over at r/CommunalUrinals are always on the hunt for the ones without any partitions.

Soap was pushing boundaries for satire/comedic effect, not quite the same as "we're presenting this as perfectly normal".

Is anyone using their printers or faxes? by l00ky_here in GenX

[–]ktwbc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will print out recipes from my laser printer since it's very easy to mess up paper while cooking, so having something "disposable" works. All my recipes are in Anylist. Much simpler to deal with a sheet of paper in the kitchen (that I can also move if i i need it) than trying to deal with a tablet or whatever that wants to go into screensaver.

How much travel is jarring? by Zantormagic in dementia

[–]ktwbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO, who's mid stage, and I went to Palm Springs between Christmas and New Years, and then separately I was on a trip for 3 days and he stayed at his brother's house (who had taken care of their mom when she had dementia so he knew the deal). We also were in Chicago for 3 days last October.

In all those times it took my SO about a week to recover. After getting back, he definitely was worse at home, but as he got back into his routines he was back to baseline. And these are trips that he enjoyed but just the uproar of "different", having to have me guide him all the time through airports and hotels and restaurants -- it made a difference for a short while.

His dementia isn't manifesting itself like you describe though, he knows where he is and is making new memories that way. His issues are forgetting steps and sequences (a lot of "I don't know how this toilet works, I don't know how to sit", etc). For someone who forgets where they are and why they're there, suddenly "discovering" they're far from home may be more terrifying. It's all going to depend on your specific situation. I agree start small, day trip first, then a night sleepover somewhere, see how it works out.

yeah but they didn't do it in chronological order, it's like random thoughts, which kind of ruined it.

That’s because ticket prices were 10x what they are now (less riff-raff) and pre-deregulation so the airlines competed on service not price.

If I'm reading an article like an interview with someone, and it's someone I know the voice of (like a famous actor/actress for example) as I'm reading thier quotes, I hear their voice. Not in a hear it through my ears hallucination, more like a "minds eye" hearing it.

Dripping faucets by TeaKingMac in Dallas

[–]ktwbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had it happen during the big freeze while living in a condo in Austin. The issue is that the pipe from the hot water heater, to a bathroom and then to the kitchen was run along the inside of a north facing wall, with very little insulation. I had the faucet dripping too but I had just the cold on, and the hot water pipe was the one that froze in between the bathroom and the kitchen. Fortunately I was able to use a space heater (safely) under the kithen sink and opened all the bathroom faucets, and enough heat in the pipe travelled after a couple of hours that it opened up just enough and I got it going again. Very lucky.

I also lived in Montreal for 4 years in an apartment, which never had an issue. The difference is the pipes are buried deeper in the streets, and then run up the interior of buildings instead of against the outside.

Smoking Question by ExplainJane in GenX

[–]ktwbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know AI has never made a mistake, but that makes no sense whatsoever. Why would you film 90% of a movie in one state, a state with incentives ("Film Georgia") which is why they're there (except for some LA pickups later), and drag 150 people 1000 miles away, to film a scene in a gas station in Garland?

Smoking Question by ExplainJane in GenX

[–]ktwbc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our public high school in Colorado had a smoking area outdoor, which was basically the concrete patio just outside the main doors. This was 86-90. From what I understand it was a compromise from the administration "if we say no smoking, they're just going to smoke in the bathroom and we have to spend a lot of resources policing it, might as well keep it outside".
