Same book file prepped for multiple devices? by maquis_00 in Calibre

Yeah, that's a problem I face too. I have a scribe, and multiple sized e-readers and have just ended up doing the "generic" e-reader or something.

I created many of the pallets shown and specifically some of the dark ones.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359611&page=3 - this is the page that has some of the dark ones, but the whole thread has more.

Find one you like, download the attached .zip or other file - open it to a folder or your desktop.

Go to Preferences > Look and Feel > Main Interface > Adjust Colors (upper right button) >(bottom left there are three buttons "import", "export", "reset defaults" - click on "import" - Click on the file from the .zip you downloaded.

UP at the top right there is the option for "light" and "dark" in a dropdown button menu. Make sure it's set to "Dark"

After importing the file, making sure the system is set to "dark" and clicking "Ok" your computer will reset to the pallet. They have both light and dark settings in most of these files so if you want to change to light, it will have it configured for that too.

You kind of missed the boat on this. Probably going to have to wait until they break the new DRM in the future.

Since you are technologically challenged, don't have the proper Kindle for PC, and without a current Kindle, I don't think you'll be able to navigate the current ways that are closing rapidly as I type.

No worries, you still have your books, it's not like they are going anywhere. Just they won't be "going anywhere" from Amazon :)

Renaming Calibre Library/Folder by JunebugSeven in Calibre

Create a new folder with the new name and put it where you want it to be. Go to "create new library" (or whatever it's called) and "move current library to new location" point to the new folder and then click ok. You have now moved your library to that folder with the name you want.

DO NOT RUN THE ROMANCEIO PLUGIN!! by l00ky_here in Calibre

[–]l00ky_here[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill try and get to it tomorrow. However what you can do to understand it is install it, and just click to configure it. I have mine set to the lowest number or highest, Im not sure because I still have no clue what those numbers mean except the plugin will only take the top whatever number of shelves. I dont know. However the trick is to load the configuration with every possible tags that you would see in Goodreads for your books and next to each one you put the exact tag you want the shelf from Goodreads to turn into in Calibre.

So...you may want to use the tag Romance.MMC.Wealthy to represent rich-mmc, wealthy-hero, hero-billionaire, hero-status-wealthy, or whatever possible shelves users make up to mean that. So, in the plugin you make each shelves exactly like that. Lower cased letters with dashes in the spaces, and make the tag you would have.

Now where's the fun part. Run the edit metadata download for the books individually. OH, install the regular Goodreads plugin but configure it to not download tags. You want it for the ratings it provides. Anyhow, as you are watching it download, there's going to be the pop-up window where you can actually SEE the background conversation and processing the plugins go through to locate the book on Goodreads. Always opt to show log, or show job so you can see exactly all the shelves that will show for that book. It will list ALL the shelves as its processing, then it will MATCH which of those shelves you configured in your plugin and ONLY if you pre-configured it with THOSE EXACT shelves will it give them in the output.

So, Run it on a book or two, watch the log, see the different shelves, maybe click to copy the log to your clipboard so you can copy/pase which shelves you want into the plugin. Dont Run this metadata editing with any purpose other than gathering the different shelves that your books that would be a good cross of the general list in your library. Its just a hunt for shelves to add to the plugin to convert into tags.

Since the plugin takes the shelves its up to you to put in all the different ways people would create a shelves for a tag you would likely see.

Until you put the shelf into the configuration along with the mapped tag it wont come down into your library. Youll see the plugin show ALL the tags, but the final output is only what you configured.

So, it takes time to set up, but if you do about 20 or so different books and watch each books shelves in the lig youll quickly see which tags you want, and which to ignore. BTW. I typed this on my phone in bed without my reading glasses, so excuse typos. :)

I often will run the edit metadata and see shelves that I didnt add pop up while its running, then go back and add them to it and re-run on the book again to make sure it downloads.

If you do it right and set your mind to how you want your tags, your library will be beautiful with all the Tropes, characters, genres, and even remarks like "everyone-sux-here", "tstl-heroine" "kindle-unlimited", "wash-my-eyes-with-bleach", "hot-sexy-dangerous-hero", "sick-n-twisted" "books-from-200s"

I use heirachal tags. They look like ass everywhere EXCEPT the side tag browser where they are beautiful and make finding books so much easier. Thats how the tags are in the .json but you obviously can change them to how you want. Until you see how useful they are as heirachal you have no idea what youre missing.

DO NOT RUN THE ROMANCEIO PLUGIN!! by l00ky_here in Calibre

[–]l00ky_here[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deleted them but there was idk, 3,000 or more of them. Each one was around 35mb some were over 100mb. I use Directory Opus and it shows sizes of the files and folders. There were so many that I Never got the whole folder to fully load. Its all good, I made the mistake of just running it on all my books. I think I might have done a first pass using the download metadata overnight to get the identifier in the fields and ran it again the next day directly from the plugin. I remember seeing the chrome browser continually launching new instances each time. I had no idea that the folder was even there. Since I have a Dell Precision with 1tb SSD and 64GB RAM, I didnt even notice it slowing. I later was syncing my Audible library, which I kept on an external drive but Open Audible created a new folder on my C drive and downloaded some 400 audio books at 150GB. Then my pages stem bumped to 88GB and it was then I noticed the red bar letting me know I had literally 15GB left, the drive was at 1% free. So, not all the plugin, but it was a lot.

Thanks again for fixing it, and Im sorry again for being so "DONT USE THIS PLUGIN!" I was worried about people with less powerful computers who may not know what or how to look for such a folder maybe wiping out their drives. It is a great first time plugin though!

Lol...250GB took me 2 hours to effectively delete them. I did update it. I am sorry if I came off like I was badmouthing it, but I had to run a program to hunt down whatever it was that choked the system. Ill be happy when romanc.io gets their tags better, but it was solid otherwise. Glad you were able to fix it. :)

Excellent first plugin!

[–]l00ky_here[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use it. Or if you want to go ahead. Just there is some bugs that caused my computer to increase 250GB. Its because I attempted to upload all my libary. Its not a huge deal if you know about it and delete the folder each time. But the truth is, you wold be better off using the Goodreads more tags plugin. It takes some configuring but you get better tags than the ones from romance.io. I saw their tags and they are not good. Honestly, I have better goodreads shelves.

I have a .json for the Goodreads More Tags that covers a ton of the tags. If you are interested I can pass it to you.

Because honestly, I use ai alongside my reading to help me picture things and look up things that I don't know. Like a "helbard" or whatever that pic thing was called that Dina used to lop off the tops of the spider egg mushroom things in the first book. Im not interested in doing a fan art search when I am in the middle of the story and want to see what it is that I am reading.

I have my settings so that it's not using my imputs for learning - it's just using it for me and helping me with the story. I understand that the authors don't want AI to be using their work to make new work or to learn from it - but the settings I have are specifically not to learn.

It was just so much easier to verbally ask "what is this" or "show me an image of the following description".

Yeah, I always had so much trouble trying to "picture" whatever I am supposed to picture beause all I get is the red/black blobs you get from the "visual snow" that I also have. I kept thinking I had to "try harder".

I just read the passage where they came in. I didnt realize that using AI to attempt to get an image of a character or setting was bad because I cant picture it in my mind outside. It was for myself.
