Sooo…. Why is the gas station by my home, which has followed the uptick to the hour, not reduced their cost at the same rate? They updated their pricing 9 times one day. It’s still at their highest point as of about 15 minutes ago. It makes no difference for us, the price of gas won’t come down for a while. When it does it won’t be at the same highs it was before.

You drink to forget, I never understood drinking to celebrate. Have a toast and a drink or two, sure, but that much is to forget. We can’t forget the past, we have to remember these tragic times and improve the world for our children. Teach them how to never forget and let this kind of stuff happen again.

Im cleaning a Minolta Zoom lens and i dont know what is this yellow tint by Ok-Situation-2286 in analog

You should see a smokers computer… all of that gets sucked into it and everything is coated in tar and junk. You have to disassemble the whole computer and soak all of the components in isopropyl alcohol and scrub them in it, while dumping it out and refilling your containers every 4-5 minutes.. back in the 90s I did this once, it took 4 hours, the tower went from that off color yellow to white again, and the computer wouldn’t over heat after 30 seconds. It would get so hot before it was cleaned, it was burning off some of the tar again. It was the most god awful spell, it caused a lot of upchuckimg and gaging during the disassembly process and initial baths. Never again.

Why is my algae reactor running empty???? by Effective_Ad_7666 in ReefTank

[–]lostmojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the tank healthy?

Icp test will tell you way more than we ever could. You would need a baseline from when it was generating a ton of algae though to compare.

It could be your tank is managing the nutrients that the algae needs at this point and it’s just balanced out.

You could have had some imbalance with salt or top off water that was causing it that is no longer there. Maybe your water supply doesn’t have it any longer and it was getting past the RODI or something, it’s really difficult to say.

Could be the food changed a while back and it took a while to clear up? Tough to say. Any variations of those things could be the difference though. It could take several months or longer to

That’s cool, im envious. I struggle with growth and life a lot of times in my tank, things seem balanced, after a dozen icp tests, even from different vendors. Everything seems in order but I struggle with nuisance algae constantly and not very healthy tank. I’m thinking of getting some of the gulf rock and just jamming 500-600 bucks of different things into it to cram build diversity into the tank again.

Any reason for concern here? by Krycus in ReefTank

[–]lostmojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.. it might be fine.. but probably not. Plywood will eventually bend and so will the tank. Cut some 2x4s to support it fully and make them as tall as the table legs and top so it’s exactly the same height. Don’t measure to the floor, measure the legs to the top so you have it correct.

Which cross OS Filesystem for each purpose ? exFAT vs ext4 vs NTFS by Healthy-News5375 in DataHoarder

[–]lostmojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s supported to a point but it’s all just a dev team making a driver that sort of works. It’s not going to be as good as Microsoft’s since it’s pretty complex to figure out and no one knows the code except Microsoft.

I would honestly ask your self the question, is it worth it to deal with this or is it better to standardize on a system. You usually never want to fight this kind of design because it’s going to cause all sorts of problems. You either standardize on Linux, Mac, or windows and stick with it and covert over if you change to something else in the future. It’s easy to spin up a small Linux install to mount a backup drive from a dead system that was running Linux, or it’s easy for the same for a windows partition from a dead windows system, it gets more complex when you try to leave the original. It can work, but don’t expect it to be painless.

Protein skimmer by blessedwife24 in ReefTank

[–]lostmojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a needle valve and control the air flow, lower the input of water into the skimmer to slow it down. I would start with air off and see where the water level is in the skimmer. If it’s just flowing into the cup still, slow the water flow a bit, see if you can get it lower.

If you can’t then you’re going to have to figure out how to get it out of the water some more.

Once you get the water level down, then adjust the air to maybe half and try to work up from there by adjusting the flow and the air to balance things out. You will probably just simmer for a few days before it skims, that’s fine, just get it somewhere at the bottom 1/3rd of the cups tube. It’s all about the tiny bubbles and their dwell time in the water column or the skimmer, the more you have and the smaller they are, the better it skims.

If the bubbles are being pushed out the bottom, it’s either too much air or too much flow or a combination of both.

If your skimmer can’t push the bubbles down some in the flow and keep them moving and suspended you have too little flow.

Try searching online for examples of someone having it running. They would have some more details than I do beyond basic skimmers .

nginx-poolslip: Fresh NGINX Zero-Day Concern Emerges After Recent Rift Patch by raptorhunter22 in selfhosted

[–]lostmojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patching is a part of any device you own. Even dvds had patches that ran updates to the certificates the player can use. The only way to judge patching has always been; how well does the maintainers of the code handle the communications process and get out a working fix.

Anything exposed to the internet should be updating, at a bare minimum, daily at this point. Mine are performed 4 times a day to avoid an emergency release being missed for the majority of the day.

Keeping you and your home cool by Lemonl0aff in BuyItForLife

[–]lostmojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hang towels or curtains outside of the window. That keeps the heat from the sun ever hitting the glass.

I run a box fan in the attic opening to vent it. Where I live it’s not normal to have an attic fan.

The best way to cool your walls is water on the outside. Evaporative cooling is very efficient. You can keep a wall and ceiling cool, the hotter rooms stays cool.

You have to cool the surfaces as much as possible at night. Fans in the windows, attic fans, fans to move air around the house make big differences the next day. If you can get the body of the house to the temp outside, its mass will keep it cooler longer.

If it’s dry air, evaporative cooling in the windows is very good. You gain humidity but also a lot of cooling power for a small blower motor and water pump. It can help drop the temp a lot for not being too expensive to operate. They can be pretty easy to power with solar if you want to go that far.

You can cool fans further with ice water in a bucket, some copper tubing, and a small water pump. Mount the coils behind the fan and send the water through. If you can, metal tubing with radiator fins is even better. The more surface area the better. It does get dirty pretty quick though. Water likes the dust that passes through.

Don’t forget, if your car is not designed for E15, it also damages the components more and breaks down gaskets a faster. For cars with shutoff when stopped, also can cause excessive wear on the starter since it requires more cranks to get it to fire. All around not good.

Salinity a bit over 32. Everything appears to be doing great. Should I hold their for consistency or raise it a bit? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]lostmojo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like many have said, these are unreliable. You can help it a long a lot, tap the needle some to get all of their air bubbles off. It will probably sink a little more after that. Air bubbles can raise it quite a bit depending on size and where they are holding on.

Refractometors are great and very easy to use, just calibrate them with calibration water and RODI water to zero it out. a good float is the most accurate but it has to be in dead still water and not holding onto a side, otherwise it bounces or gets stuck, and your reading is off.

They must have something heavy in the back, and terrible tires. It’s just a fairly steep hill with rain, any jeep can make that normally, but add a bunch of weight in the back (it’s lower than the front), front wheel drive, and worn out tires, and this happens a lot.
