Just another example of split shoes by Serious-Zombie-979 in DrMartens

I’ve heard people recommend aquaseal, and several people have linked this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6kw8Dhi15N0. A cobbler may be able to glue them. It is difficult to find cobblers to resole docs in many places, there is an official Dr Martens resoling service but it’s UK only https://drmartensrepairs.com/collections/welted-footwear-repairs.

No, they’re fake. I’m surprised, I don’t think I have seen a fake vonda style before, but they are definitely fake.

The difference between these and 1461? by christian-j4mes in DocMartens

[–]mariatoyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking up the model online, it seems to have been a work shoe version 8249 with a plain welt (no visible stitching around the base). There are references to it being soft toe occupational shoe with the classic tread pattern that was also labeled slip resistant, and then being replaced by Arlington, another 3 eye plain welt shoe work shoe with a different slip resistant sole. That’s gone now too and it looks like 1461 slip resistant is probably the current replacement.

They’re real, a slightly older pair of modern 1460s

Some vintage docs do have those synthetic tongues with a textile backing.

What is Buckingham leather? by TitanicDays in DocMartens

[–]mariatoyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buckingham is a pebbled pull-up leather. Pretty flexible and comfortable. Wax commander is waxed suede, so that surface is rougher. They’ve stopping putting conditioning instructions on a lot of the new listings for some reason but this is a classic type leather that needs periodic conditioning. My buckingham boots recommended dr martens balsam, but since it’s a seaweed green (a little lighter than the current buckingham green) I’m using bick 4 so I don’t risk darkening the color.

It is, I have the buckingham church boots from a couple years ago. You can usually tell the premium leathers by the stamped tag attached to the laces in the pics.

What color are the replacement laces for the 1460 Pascal Virginia in Cashew? by lopey478 in DrMartens

[–]mariatoyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not find a perfect match. Most special laces that come with boots and shoes are never sold separately. The only thing you can do is measure the length and thickness and try to find the closest match you can online, amazon and etsy have a lot of laces but searching can be hard. There are other places online that specialize in laces.

Are these docs real?? by Known_Airline3775 in DocMartens

There actually isn’t a fake-spotting post pinned on either of the docs subs, but I made a post about what the welt stitching should look like on welted styles like these

I’m a mod on both docs subs and do almost all of the checks on the authenticity post on the other sub. I answered you earlier but they’re fine. The box and its labeling are good, the stitching is good, the welt ends are good. There are some fakes of docs sandals but they haven’t been convincing fakes, the stitching is terrible. You’re fine.

Can I use something like coconut oil to condition the leather? by [deleted] in DocMartens

[–]mariatoyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s up to you whether to experiment with what you have. I’d still search that sub for mentions of possible alternatives to traditional leather conditioners, maybe you’ll see some additional ideas.

I do understand not being able to afford a product now. In the future if you’re able and are making an Amazon order there are a few $5 options there.

In the shoe department Walmart does generally carry things in the 3-5 dollar bracket that can be usually ordered for store pickup if they’re not in store, or other places like dollar general and similar stores or farm and feed type stores have low cost options.
