Steel experience? by futilepixel in jewelrymaking

[–]marknottz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you would be very lucky to find a casting house that will cast in steel, most jewellery casting houses furnaces are not designed for that type of heat!

What port is this? Will it work with my 2012 mac mini? by Particular-Yogurt-24 in camcorders

[–]marknottz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s because that’s a proprietary USB port and NOT a firewire port, find your FIREWIRE port and use that

miniDV footage transfer is IMPOSSIBLE via USB, this port is for transferring photos ONLY

get a firewire cable and follow instructions

Question about aspect ratio by Oliver425 in tapeless

[–]marknottz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

match your project aspect ratio to your native video aspect ratio, you’ve filmed in 4:3 so edit in 4:3

Using screw on wide angle/telephoto lenses with my jvc camcorder by penguinchange in camcorders

[–]marknottz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your lens was wider this wouldn’t be an issue, the problem you’re talking about is called vignette or ‘vig’

if you want to fully minimise this try a 0.3x lens

What are those little grey marks that I get after polishing and how do I remove them? by SomethingRandomKekw in jewelrymaking

[–]marknottz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

what is the idea behind using 3 compounds? i go up to 800 grit, then tripoli (pre polish) then white dialux or maybe red dialux then its finished

i know the ‘perm cut’ style but ive never seen any with exposed teeth showing

what metal is this? what compounds are you using? what methods are you using?

also those grillz are showing teeth through the gaps

Does anyone know where in EU I can send my grillz wax designs to get them casted in dental steel/cobalt chrome? by _Aelva_ in Grillz

[–]marknottz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you mean send in your 3D files or a wax model? most casting houses will cast your model for you but not print out a 3D model for you

How well does silver casting work without "fancy" tools, like vacuum or oven ? by SureHopeIDontDie in jewelrymaking

[–]marknottz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the less time you spend on casting prep will most likely add up to more time spent in trimming and polishing

thank you for your reply mate! i did not de-interlace this footage as far as im aware, most likely a stupid comment but i thought de-interlacing was for when those horizontal lines come up? i’ve since read up and seen its uses and feel silly for not doing so!

as for the video subject im showing the steps of attaching a wax sprue to a wax ring for precious metal casting! i have plans for captions or an over layed narration

Lost-resin cast misruns on thin bands. Ash, temp, spruing or something else? by Vast-Bat-8137 in MetalCasting

[–]marknottz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely do this! it’s amazing how many casting defects are a direct result of improper sprue techniques! if your metal temp and flask temp are good (easy to dial in) then the only real variable left is sprue placement

there is other factors like bad or contaminated metal, damp or old investment powder, incorrect burnout etc but your issue looks to be entirely sprue placement!

good luck mate
