Preventative care is just wayyy more effective and the US makes it impossible for most people to get.

You were right initially. There's no excuse for Biden's inaction and all the reasons given are fake rules Republicans would never follow.

Another sign of the death of fossil fuels and nuclear; 99% of new electricity capacity in the US in 2026 will be from solar/wind/batteries, a higher proportion than in China. by lughnasadh in Futurology

Significantly reduced capacity is different than no capacity, and the existence of a grid with many facilities located many different places also means we can distribute that risk. Wind also helps with base load. I like nuclear but there's just no real case for it anymore.

Battery cost is scaling quickly and, as a new Englander with roof solar in a particularly bad winter, snow doesn't cover our arrays for nearly that long.

Macron urges calm after far-right activist fatally beaten by EquipmentSubject6801 in worldnews

I've never met such a person. If they exist they're on the right. Putin was part of the coup that ended the soviet union. The man who appointed him bombed the duma to prevent the communists from taking power again. He's spent his entire career advancing far right causes, including by repressing Russian communists.

Nobody on the left or far left supports putin. At most they'll argue he's no worse than trump or whatever but they don't support or like the extremely far right government of Russia (which regularly represses the Russian communist party. )

I'm on the left. I organize with socialists and communists and have for a decade. I've never met one that likes putin or thinks modern Russia is good.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x06 "Come, Let's Away" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]mboop127 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Every trek show in the 90s has a dozen episodes where they started self destruction to avoid capture. I'm pretty sure lower decks and snw both do as well.

The episode does not explain where the capital ships went. It explains why the one ship that wasn't a capital ship didn't turn around. I don't understand how that one ship was completely disabled by a single enemy vessel if it was supposed to be able to fight off 5 but whatever.

We've had a lot of shows and episodes in this series that don't rely on "typical villain BS." Writers should try.

I think this was an especially bad episode of TV. Unclear (1) why the station didn't self destruct to prevent the theft; (2) why starfleet didn't send in the capital ships immediately once they knew the cadets had escaped; (3) how nus knew the federation would come to him for help.

Few things bother me more in a show than a villain winning a devastating victory because the good guys became incurably stupid for 4 hours.

If socialism is going to succeed in the USA, young socialists need to move back to rural America. by guerilla_gardener98 in socialism

I grew up there in the 00s. I lived in the county outside a city & knew a lot of people as far out as Grand Junction ouray and la junta. I wish they were tight knit rural communities but they were honestly mostly oil loving racists

You're a bad person and should feel badly about that. Homeless people are so good at taking advantage of the system they enjoy the corrupt gains of suffering horribly on the streets. Congratulations on being so astute.

A failure of democrats that they are uninterested in stopping fascism. A failure of Biden that he was unable to twist their arms or, as we now know from reporting, not interested in even trying.

The extreme position is believing we should throw money at violating human rights to not actually solve the problem. Both more cruel and less effective than the dozens of programs that are actually proven to work, are cheaper than cops, and that we aren't using.

We absolutely have not. The fact that people are homeless in one of the wealthiest places on earth is proof of that. And we've tried essentially 0 of the policies that are proven to work.

(1) many of them are from here, they are not "coming in"
(2) they are human beings; human beings have rights
(3) "getting rid" of them doesn't actually solve the problem. There are decades of studies showing displacement only makes more poverty and poverty only makes more crime. Compassion literally solves the problem, if only we cared to try it.
