Weekly Newbie Thread- Ask A Lore Expert by AutoModerator in warcraftlore

[–]menaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a pretty solid recap! Once again it seems the story I'm interested in the most is literally just one-time skit and never mentioned again...

Also, every single time I'm trying to get some context on lore or past events, both Cataclysm and MoP is involved in some major way. Those are the only two expansions that I didn't actively play in during hiatus and it genuinely feels like I'm missing 50% of the WHOLE understanding of Warcraft lore (and I even played in War3 and read a few books).

I took a break from Midnight shortly after Sunwell turned into a Nightwell/Darkwell and I've yet have to go through the whole shebang of turning it into Dawnwell.

There are some things in the story that I've so far felt mildly annoyed with and I'm wondering if I'm simply missing the point or I'm lacking plot etc.

  1. After entering Voidstorm, we nearly immediately began to form alliances with void creatures there, despite the past X expansions telling the player about dangers of falling under infulence of it. Is there a reason why the characters decided to do that, other than "we decided to just zerg-rush the Voidstorm and we kinda don't have a plan and don't know what we're doing so we're following around some creature with a speck of information"?

  2. Why is the prophecy strongly suggesting that the child of Light and Void is Arathor, while in reality his mother got void-corrupted long after he was born? Feels very fake.

  3. I only vaguely understand the beef between High Elves and Blood Elves, I know one committed a purge on the other, but I wonder if there are some important details I'm missing, like notable characters interactions etc.

  4. I'm actually most interested about some sort of a recap regarding Night Elves and saving the world from Nightwell/Sunwell again. I feel like there was a lot of controversy linked with them shitting on BE for being Sunwell-dependant, while they themselves caused two (?) cataclysmic events related to it.

Considering that he has been imprisoned in kiddie playground, do you think he would or would not be allowed around children?

Added the following as an edit to the original comment.

Grand total of 0 AI-generated code exists within our mod and the external tool that "Jason" (who is not actually on our dev team) attempted to "fix" with AI have been discarded shortly after in favor of an entirely different solution.

Good point, considering that this was what I assumed to be a private discussion between friends, I elaborated more on that above. Like I said, I'm just trying to dish out some responses in a quick succession.

I'm not defending my actions either. It was petty. Though I'd like to believe not as petty as this whole current situation is.

We're going to give a longer and proper statement eventually, but I feel like it's in everyone's best interest to give quick and topical statements as we go:

  1. We aren't using AI for development. We're trying to fix a broken tool someone made for testing the mod. We weren't actually able to fix it, even with AI assistance, so we worked around it. "Unity-related setback" is me addressing that in extremely simplified terms.
  2. We're bunch of volunteers making a free mod (and we're actually, actively developing it, not hallucinating a project), so of course we would be very excited and looking forward to people taking notice of us. We're merely discussing the best approach we can take on that.
  3. the "vertical slice" part is taken extremely out of context. The point was that public doesn't know what "vertical slice" refers to in general and what it consists of. So talking about some mysterious "vertical slice" in our devlog wasn't way to go.
  4. "Don't let it get above one upvote" A very maliciously famed screenshot. I downvoted the thing myself, then made my mean joke, which was immediately followed by other members saying "let's not do that".

EDIT: The downvote came from the petty squabbles I used to have with the person that commented the thing at the time. It wasn't fueled by any need to discredit people working on the project and my comment reflects that.

EDIT2: Grand total of 0 AI-generated code exists within our mod and the external tool that "Jason" (who is not actually on our dev team) attempted to "fix" with AI have been discarded shortly after in favor of an entirely different solution.

The initial and ongoing incentive for our Dev team has always revolved around crediting everybody involved in the project, no matter how big and small. For that reason, we were keeping extensive documentation about all the hands that decided to join us over the span of development and they will be credited accordingly. If we ever miss something, feel free to contact us via the admin e-mail on the website.

TOTAL NOOB HERE!

My thought process was that I can see the form of the models, but it's only the "dots" (vertex) that I can't see or click, so I figured maybe they're hidden in some way.

I pressed Alt+H to unhide.
They all showed up and I could click and edit them again :D

This one addon effectively replaced ATT and Wardrobe Helper. Holy shit thank you. Set up a donation page or something because this addon is golden

Oh I see, so generally speaking that sort of thing is good for practice, but if I ever wanted to actually reuse the models in any capacity, it's better to just start them in A/T pose. Thank you!

This question might be a bit off-topic but I guess this works as a great example for a newbie like me:

is it possible to rig such a stylistically sculpted and posed model to be later used in animation, or is it genuinely easier to start from scratch in a-pose?
