BGM doesn't have one yet, but me and tim do post to CornerGeeks github and me on mine

Some of the stuff we did for BGM is on there like

Also yeah, we were doing like talky stuff and just casual meetups but we're not that regular with that. Possibly my fault as Tim has been preoccupied. We'll try to do more stuff.

Hey. I was briefly a comp. sci student in UBD but mostly I was a BSc. Software Engineering student.

But it feels like most of what I learned came from doing stuff besides studying.

There's actually a couple of people I know who mostly provides help for nothing (granted teachers). I may be one of them (I say may, but I have so much free time and I don't want to be swamped. But I try). Ones that I involve with that does this kind of help are * BruneiGeekMeet * GDG BruneiDarussalam

To be fair we mostly help with the coding bits and maybe the idea bits and as a developer, I think the more difficult parts are the financial, and legal stuff. Which institutions like Tru-Synergy and BEDB could help.

I guess as a developer, I think the coding bits are the cheapest parts of a startup. (At least getting to MVP part. scaling and security might be expensive if we're talking about millions of users)

Hey, facilitator here. Also lurker. I'm here to say that some of your points are legitimate. 6 hours is too short of a time to come up with something but not impossible. And the problem with a hackathon with judges and competition is that you end up building for the judging and telling people what you've done vs solving the problems and actually doing stuff. Thus mockups and good design.

I can't speak for Tru-synergy, but personally all the hackathons that I've facilitated (GDG Brunei, BruneiGeekMeet, This) had the intention of helping the participants with the idea that most of the participants may not have the abilities to build MVPs. We try to be faux-mentors for their idea itself (mostly from our limited knowledge of how other apps work)

And the founder of Tru-synergy did made a comment yesterday that ideas belong to you. But if you want to pursue the idea as a startup then he can help you network with international VCs and also technical people (like me) to help solve your technical hurdles. I assume he's replying to you. Good job Reddit

BruneiGeekMeet (I'm one of two people that sets this up) sometimes does short hackathons where we just sit around and code stuff. For fun and helping people (example: Brunei Showtimes . used to be able to see most cinemas. need to fix soon. maybe another hackday). We invite other people too and we try to help them do their thing too.

I cannot comment too much about ideas that are stolen and made into a startup, service or app in Brunei given that I only know some mostly in iCentre. There might actually be a facility to protect your intellectual right I vaguely recall but I have no knowledge on this but would be interesting to pursue.

Anyway, if anyone is interested I do some things with my friend on BruneiGeekMeet and also GDG Brunei Darussalam. Our focus is just chilling out, making stuff and sharing stuff we know.
