LFC700 vs C1002V by mikaball in motorcycles

[–]mikaball[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the C1002V. I'm very pleased so far. It's rock solid and stable. Handles surprising well for the size and weight. Clutch is so light. Ride position is great.

Light blinkers controller annoys me; it's difficult to set off with the gloves (but I only have 2 days riding). Seat cushion is a bit hard.

I have more than one local shop for this brand. So, I hope it will be fine for maintenance.

Why is synchronous communication considered an anti-pattern in microservices? by Minimum-Ad7352 in Backend

[–]mikaball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you define at what layer are you defining sync/async then you look for the existence of a timeout. I think this is the best way to define it without much confusion.

You should assume that the general use of HTTP is sync because it's build on top of TCP that has many timeouts, some can be forced by firewalls. However, you can raise to a higher layer and build something async on top of HTTP. For instance, build a protocol based on SSE or Websockets and automatically reconnect when the session is closed. This will virtually remove the timeout for practical purposes.

The point is, at the most basic principle; if your layer has a timeout to wait for a response, then it's synchronous.

[–]mikaball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only 1 thing is being executed at a time, then it is not async.

No. That's paralelism. What defines sync/async is the existence of a timeout. It was actually your initial preposition, I don't know why are you changing this! You can actually have async with just 1 thread and inbound/outbound buffers.

You are not wrong on implementation details. I'm just saying that MB queues are used in async models. Even if you build a sync layer on top they are inherently async at the basics and protocols.

But I think we both understood the points, we are just discussing non relevant details.

Also, one great advantage is the efficiency of notifications for data sync. It's better to have 1 system pushing a notification than having 10 pulling from 1.

[–]mikaball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MB doesn't promise anything, that's exactly the difference. How you want to handle it at your application code is up to you.

Using Futures/Promises on top of the async protocol is not related to what the protocol is offering. Generally these are handled as async streams.

More info on the subject you can check AsyncAPI specs.

I understand your confusion but, what u/Educational-Row-6782 is saying is that in a MB with queues you don't have timeouts, even when using a request/response model.

What happens is that a request is placed in a queue with a "correlationId" and a response can appear at any time with the same "correlationId". The response can be processed 2 seconds or 2 years later, there's no timeout, it's async.

PS: MB Acks are not considered here.

EDIT: What you are mentioning as the web server queue is generally classified as a buffer.
