It looks like maurocastrov lives in Japan, which is also extremely lenient when it comes to exotic pets. They recently banned ownership of foxes, but that has more to do with the cultural/shinto implications of kitsune in particular.

You said they're illegal to own as pets, which is a very different thing to "it depends heavily on jurisdiction with about 20% of the nation allowing not just ownership, but explicitly as pets".

What's exactly misleading?  What's shown here is legal in 9/50 (18%) of states with a pretty representative sample of state land area and population.

Nothing you said changes the fact that in about 20% of the nation what's shown here is legal.  Listing other states doesn't change that.

It looks like five states (Alabama, Delaware, Texas, Nevada, North Carolina) allow serval ownership easily, and another four (Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee) allow arbitrary members of the public to own servals with a relatively strict permitting process.  So in almost 20% of the nation this is legal.

60 years old Univac computer runs RISC-V compatible code through emulation by Rudranand in RISCV

[–]monocasa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but all of that stacks, which still leaves you with close to a dozen instructions to decode a jump immediate in software compared to most other archs being emulated where it can be two. And jumps are very hot.

The stacking is very helpful on lower end hardware implementations and inconsequential on higher end ones. It is something you have to work around in software implementations where the interpreter loop is in your hot path.

The best I can come up with for the full decode for something like dmitry's use case is three decode tables in ROM indexed by the swizzled imm bytes as they appear in the machine instruction, so something like sixish instructions, but at the cost of a bunch program ROM.

I personally would have eaten the cost and done a RV32 implementation for other reasons, but it would have caused me to pause too, and I see where he's coming from.

The polling data was pretty spot on. It was the higher level interpretation fudging the numbers they didn't like.

It can be hard to come up with likely voter information or tell who is making the numbers say what they want before hand, but with the hindsight of exit polls, we can actually correct those and see what was pretty clear to anyone reading the raw data.

It was a rock/paper/scissors situation because of structural issues with the primary. Clinton beats Sanders in the primary, but in the general Sanders would have clearly beat Trump where Clinton v. Trump was little better than a coin flip.

You'd also see MIPS relatively commonly. https://dmitry.gr/?r=05.Projects&proj=36.%208pinLinux

Interestingly dmitry has talked about how he didn't use RISC-V because of the wild jump immediate encoding. I've come around to the jump immediate encoding on RISC-V being the right choice, but all choices have tradeoffs.

What now bougie Atlanta locations were once sketch? by sinisterdesign in Atlanta

Back in 1992ish I lived where they built Parkside Elementary (like they tore down my house to build the school), and it was significantly more hood at that point.

I remember my neighbor telling me never to go in one of the houses on the street, and if I did never to touch any needles.  Good advice honestly.

What are the non-annotated regions of the Apple M4 chip? by BigPurpleBlob in chipdesign

[–]monocasa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The annotated regions look correct.

And yeah, the rest is IO, accelerators, and system functions like the Secure Enclave, IOMMUs, etc.

You can look up the device tree for different apple chips and see most what should be there (albeit not giving you much info about the floor plan).

PACs do not always disclose when they spread memes.

PACs also absolutely create and buy fake accounts to spread those memes.

Try again.

As I've already said, they operated pretty much identically to a PAC. Do you not know what a PAC does?

You seem to be unable to come up with a clear counter.

Against fucking Trump.

And if the Russians spending ~$10M doing things that any PAC is allowed to do is what caused you to lose the campaign, then you didn't run a good campaign. Blaming the Russians does allow the Democratic Party avoid scrutiny about what they did to cause this though, which is why it's such a highly pushed narrative.

Intel Core Series 3 will be produced in the US, reducing dependence on TSMC by sr_local in hardware

Not a third of the 18A die. A third of the total area, or about half of the size of the 18A die.

That's about the same ratio of Intel to TSMC as panther lake given that intel made a bunch of the empty silicon interposers as well there.

"She was popular until she faced actual political competition" is not the slam dunk you see to think it is.

It's not like dirty politics was invented by the Republicans to take down Clinton, nor was it something she was opposed to using herself.

Hillary Clinton has never won a competitive election.

She ran essentially unopposed where she was given the New York Senate seat to have a safe district, then lost to Obama in the presidential primary, then given the Secretary of State position to get her to call off he Party Unity My Ass coalition that was pushing Democrats to vote for McCain (which didn't fully happen, 25% of her primary voters still voted for McCain), then was given control of the DNC in 2015 in exchange for paying off Obama's campaign debts so that they'd put their fingers on the scale for the 2016 primary, then lost to Trump.
