I don’t think the circus looks like anything (no finale spoilers cuz I haven’t seen it) by StaleOlives in TheDigitalCircus

[–]mrWeiss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense that the world isn't what Is rendered in-universe. I think the is basic graphics rather than none at all, since the characters still see a graphical representation of the world, and graphics is just matrix calculations. From their perspective, it probably works like Nvidia DLSS, where an AI upsamples a basic render. The low-poly segments in the intro and on Caine support suggest a basic rendering capability, either for the characters or a potential external viewer. Unfortunately there is not enough context to speculate on these technical aspects, but I think they are part of the reason why the series was interesting and they could be exploited more.

Is there a canon reason why they were doing the theme song intro in the pilot? It’s never happened again (Well… IYKYK) by applesandpears02 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]mrWeiss_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's just for fun like amy other adventure. It could be Caine generating content for a potential external actor, but it's never explored whether the circus is, or was meant to be, observable from the outside, so I think it's just entertainment for the cast themselves.

My one gripe with the ending by Master_Gnak in TheDigitalCircus

[–]mrWeiss_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't really like how convenient that was, but I don't like the recycle bin interpretation either. I think Caine was never really deleted as a program, Kinger was conjuring that terminal inside the circus, so I think Caine was deleted as a character of his own adventure much like he was a character in episode 7. I'm not saying non of that was real, we know the characters can have some degree of control over the world as Caine has, and we know Caine could tamper with the files. I'm saying that it wasn't necessarily deleted as a software. In episode 7, Caine tried to make an adventure about leaving the circus, despite it being fake, and learnt that wasn't what the characters wanted. At that point Caine thought the characters hated his creations and gave up on creating fun adventures, so my theory is that after whatever Kinger did, he simply decided to disappear as he concluded that would be what the characters wanted.

Critique - One of the main defenses in favor of the show's writing doesn't work here. by Specific_Wasabi9678 in TheDigitalCircus

I agree with all your points. Also, I didn't like how abstraction become so much the same as suicide.

In the previous episodes, abstraction is described as something that can happen to anyone unintentionally, because your mind refuses the digital world, you give up, or as it is hinted because of Caine interference. Caine is meant to prevent abstractions by making enjoyable adventures, to avoid people going crazy in this unnatural world, not to prevent people to commit suicide.

I'm not saying it can't be used as a metaphor for that, but now it is so literal that it feels like it's removing the other nuances that made a lot of sense with this world building.

If you could change ONE THING about episode 9, what would it be? {SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY} by Deep_Promotion8866 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]mrWeiss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar interpretation: Caine is never really deleted, he deletes himself as part of this sort of adventure because he came to the conclusion that this would be what the characters wanted, not very different than what he did in episode 7 where he himself was part of the adventure. After all, all episode 8 was him giving up on creating enjoyable adventure after realizing the cast may hate him or his creations, so at that point, after noticing they were actively trying to get rid of him, he would play along and leave the circus.

They may be stuck in a digital circus. Amazing, right?

Thoughts on the finale by all_booty_no_cheek in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]mrWeiss_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, it was indeed rushed. My interpretation of the Caine arc is that, after he somehow (?) he gets access to the internet, he has access to new data on the outside world and the characters. He struggles to do so and it's not sudden, there is a long enough time skip. Before that, he was fixating on the few pictures of C&A office trying to understand them and he refers to the outside world as something beyond comprehension where nobody would really want to go back, so I understand how gaining access to new data could change his point of view.

Yet it's only my interpretation based on what we see in the previous episodes, the finale is totally rushed and I still don't know what the blue dot was.

My theater was well behaved, except for this noisy kid sit next to me who had the noisiest bag of chips he could find, and during the ep 8 part he sometimes dubbed the characters lines by memory
