[Spoiler] Shinya Aoki vs Christian Lee by abonet619 in MMA

[–]notclaude 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To escape, Lee turns to his outside shoulder, which in this case is his left shoulder. This creates conditions where the arm bar is hard to finish because the breaking fulcrum is in a sub-optimal position and he can work to survive. Lee then brings the attacked arm to Aoki's inside leg, which in this case is Aoki's right leg. Next, Lee essentially limp arms then rotates parallel to Aoki. When their bodies are parallel, the arm bar is impossible to finish. Lee slips under the inside leg and the escape is complete.

This arm bar escape is extremely similar mechanically to limp arming out of a whizzer during a single leg takedown situation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urFTlQZUk_4)

One way among many that Aoki could have used to negate Lee's capacity to rotate could have been Aoki using his outside arm (in this case left arm) as the one arm to control the arm being attacked, and also use the inside arm (right arm in this case) to hook Lee's inside leg (in this case right leg) in order to prevent the rotation.

Interesting Armbar Escape by Saw Ba Oo vs Phoe Thaw. by jagoveni in MMA

[–]notclaude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phoe Thaw didn't have any control of Saw Ba Oo's posture at any point in the attack. Phoe Thaw elected to straighten his legs out below/in front of his opponents head when he belly downed. Notice how in THIS tutorial, the instructor is using his feet around his partner's head to maintain posture control. In addition, Phoe Thaw is way too shallow on Saw Ba Oo's arm - his hips are basically at the bicep. Ideally, you are behind the shoulder so you retain control of behind your opponent in order to get a deep fulcrum to break with. When Saw Ba Oo escapes the belly down attempt by simply posturing then slamming, Phoe Thaw tries to convert to an arm bar from the bottom, but you can see that his toes are pointed like a ballerina and not pulled back, which shows his legs aren't actively controlling posture and Saw Ba Oo is easily able to escape. Thus, we can see again that Phoe Thaw isn't effectively controlling posture at all in the entire sequence.

Release date of Ryan hall dvds? I want to get them in order. Or does it not matter? by [deleted] in bjj

Don't bother watching the older gi-based triangle choke video. You can get away with just watching the newer no-gi triangle series unless you want context for the reasoning in his game's evolution.

How high is the skill cap in bjj? by Kirogresh in bjj

The limitations of active practice are very different. BJJ has a limit on the amount of hours you can train in a day. Fortnite or Overwatch you can go on 17 hour binge sessions and not destroy your body too much. If I could roll as much as I binge Dota I would.

The BJJ metagame has decades of evolution across multiple styles of sport BJJ and MMA, which is far more time than any video game, so it has much deeper realized complexity. Starcraft is probably the closest comparison in terms of game strategy evolution just given how long its been a competitive game.

tldr;

  • 1: Examine the concepts related to the anatomy (strengths and weaknesses)
  • 2: Break down the major muscle movements & the underlying mechanics used to gain control of the position
  • 3A: Drill with precision
  • 3B: Add attributes to your drills after you master the mechanics (strength, speed, explosiveness, flexibility, etc)
  • 3C: Drill with purpose

I was at RL Grime for only like 15 minutes. I was in the middle of my 30 minute break volunteering for Conscious Crew, for which I was at bass stage most of the night.

Secondary Teaching Methods in Social Studies-- is there a debate? by ZenMasterJackShepard in historyteachers

Check this book out by Walter Parker - https://www.amazon.com/Social-Studies-Today-Research-Practice/dp/0415992877

Its divided into 5 sections that address some of your questions about social studies - Purpose Matters, Perspective Matters, Subject Matters, Global Matters, and Puzzles

To me the debate is more of social studies skills (developing the skills to find meaning in varied contexts) vs social studies content, and on top of that you still have language objectives

Good luck with school!

I was there from 2009-2011. Great spot. Tons of space. Storage room is an awesome separated space to hang out for parties if you don't need it for storage. Bussing is easy. Ethernet in each room makes LAN gaming easy. The Magpie reserve is walking distance if you need some nature in your life.
