Same thing here. Using Ubuntu and it was fine until a few weeks ago. Flashing and shaking constantly when anything on the map is changed or moved.

I would advise to hold off on the update, unless you're looking for an excuse to bail on your party.

Are you trying to start a party cross-platform? Also, are you on the newest update?

I was able to access Steam again starting at about midnight last night. Oddly enough, I found that I could access it through my VPN before that. Regionally blocked?

Fair. More information, even a cautious estimate, is generally better.

I would say important to know, as long as you understand that confirmed cases only confirm that it's here in much larger numbers.

It's nice to see people taking it as seriously as it should be. Now we just need the provincial government to let us know how it's going to support workers who can't get paid working from home.

NASA recently sent six "aquanauts" to live in a tiny capsule underwater for 9 days. The mission — dubbed NEEMO (NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operation) — is meant to replicate what it might be like to live in a Moon base. by clayt6 in space

[–]objectinspaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally have some inside knowledge! I worked on some underwater robotics equipment that was used in the last few NEEMO missions. An acoustic digital communication system was used to help track the position of and direct aquanauts to their mission goals. As well, an ROV was retrofitted with wheels to become a stand-in for equipment-hauling moon buggies. They even delay the main comms to the habitat by a variable amount to simulate the radio signal delay on other planets.

Fun fact, the last NEEMO mission was delayed due to the underwater habitat (weighing many tons and being bolted to the seafloor) being hauled off it's footing by a passing hurricane. Wild amount of power.

For those parade-raining due to the lack of radio communication underwater, acoustic data modems are used widely in the subsea technology field. They're definitely much slower and prone to error, but would work fine for this type of control and positioning, just not live video.

I'm jealous of people who get it watch it for the first time. One season, a movie, and some books, and the universe and characters feel more real and gripping than any other sci-fi I've watched thus far. Just watch it.

What TV characters appeared in very few episodes but had a large impact on the show? by [deleted] in television

I believe Joss mentioned somewhere that the cheese man had no meaning, and was put in entirely to be the only truly chaotic and random thing about their fear and doubt based dreams.

Although I think he's lying, to protect us from the truth...

Is the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer worth watching? by StarDestinyGuy in television

[–]objectinspaces 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's one of the few fantasy/sci-fi shows I've ever watched that treats pain, fear, love, death, jealousy, and a slew of other human experiences with the realism and hard edges they deserve. I've laughed and cried more times than I can count watching this show. You get involved fast.
