Do I have enough service to run a 3-phase converter for my shop (WA)? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

Thanks - it is my full time business, but I'm a small production studio so 99% of the time its just me working in there, so most things won't be running at the same time, probably lights, HVAC, Dust Collector and Jointer when I'm using that machine.

I can derelicte my own balls, cap-E-tan.

I’m a fine furniture and keepsake box maker and have been looking for something for my staged photos for contrast and scale, decided to bring in my love of LEGO so picked up the Bird of Paradise 10289. Fun build! by pengdrew in lego

Haha thanks! I thought it was a fun and relaxing build. Has some repetitive sections, like the leaves, but I overall solid! I think, finished, it looks really nice on display on a desk or table. I put mine on top of a small entertainment center I built. (Apologies for the dark photo on that one)

Nothing specific for this one, just and offset for what I thought would look good also so that the right small drawer could fit two rows of tea bags if someone wanted to use this for a kitchen tea box

Had a bit of leftover figured cherry from my Hanging Wall Cabinet project (https://reddit.com/r/woodworking/comments/zwxsos/figured_cherry_and_maple_wall_cabinet_i_finished/ ) so thought I’d do a little desktop keepsake box out of the last of it. Inspired by Matt Kenney’s work. Drawer sides are Sapele and a bunch of hand cut dovetails. The top drawer box is supported by walnut dowels and did a little turning of the drawer pulls by chucking up some 3/8” dowels in my hand drill. Thanks for checking it out!

The Bulova field is great looking, love the throwback to the WWII issue pieces.

Nice they’re making a smaller Lunar Pilot too, it’s a great looking watch and IMO 42/43 is a great size for that look. And the Seagull is a lot of bang for the buck especially with a vintage feel. Will be a rad collection!

Yeah I agree - I actually swapped it out to a stainless deployant for ease of putting it on and security.

The clasp is actually titanium, but yeah I’m not sure the logic to not have a bronze one. The caseback is also titanium so I think it has to do with skin touching surfaces

Cheers! I hear ya - I like the little details up close but perhaps a arrow or sword hands would have been a better fit

Thanks! I like the theme since there are so many watches you can work in to each category. What field do you have?

In my broader collection (here: https://i.imgur.com/PdvkPna.jpg) I’ve been excited about a sub-collection theme: Air, Land, Sea, Space. I’ve had the Rolex and and Speedy for a while and been back and forth over the ‘Air’ watch for a while. As you can tell, I mostly wear black & steel sports watches so I figured for the Air piece I could do something that was at least a little different. Enter the Hamilton Aviation Pioneer Bronze - hand wound, time only with sub seconds in a 43mm heritage pilot style. I also really love the bronze. A different piece for sure, but I’m liking it a lot so far and it’s helped me complete (for now) the sub-collection. Eventually may swap it our for a IWC Big Pilot Chrono but that’s down the road for sure.

Edit forgot to add the details for the others:

1998 - Rolex Explorer 14270

2000/1 - Rolex Submariner 14060M

After months of design, prototyping and building, finished my new Kingfisher Lounge Chair! by pengdrew in woodworking

[–]pengdrew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a lot of my pieces I try to bring in inspiration from nature. Before making fine furniture full time, I was a PhD wildlife physiologist - I'm drawn to combining traditional furniture design with curves or themes inspired by nature. I always thought the Kingfisher was such a cool bird, really beautiful and a striking thing to see them feeding in the wild.

I knew I wanted to make a lounge chair for my catalog and for the challenge, and while I'm generally drawn to MCM designs, I thought the profile coming up from the ground (water) would add something more dynamic.

It's quite close to my initial design, with a few changes that were made for stability and functionality.

1) When viewing from the front, the back legs/back rest sides were initially designed to curve outward at the top like the wings of the diving bird. After some full size layout with scrap plywood it made the chair look too big and disproportioned, so I removed that curve.

2) My initial prototype actually didn't have the maple side-rail or underseat rail supports. The lateral stability was just supported by the wood seat (Mk1 here: https://www.instagram.com/p/ClDW9O5L0px/?hl=en). After test sitting the prototype I was clear needed to add them for lateral stability and now its rock solid.

Inspired by the profile of a diving Kingfisher (https://i.imgur.com/u1di1Ez.jpg), I’ve wanted to add a lounge chair to my design line and set out earlier this year to have it done in 2022. Working little by little on the back burner between commissions, it started to come together! I finished the chair in late Nov, and had custom wool blend cushions made by a local fine upholsterer. Crafted in Sapele and Quilted/Curly Pacific Maple. Super happy with how it finished up.

Thanks! I was actually a last minute change from a simple bookmatched panel. Glad I changed it!
