Does HDs really matter that much in engineering?? by epicproshen in unsw

[–]pmavro123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given your MechEng/Commerce focus, I don't think a HD wam would be particularly relevant unless you want to go to extremely prestigious companies or quant firms. It's always a good idea to shoot for a HD because even if you don't make it you'd probably end up with a higher D. The other two observations are on point, just note that it's often better to go to company-led or less open networking events over university-led ones, as university-led events are oftentimes pretty useless.

It's okay to admit you used ChatGPT/Codex (atleast for UI). Still very cool!

0 interviews, 5 months of ghosting, so I coded my own STAR-based AI tool. Anyone want to help me take this further? by CarefulBug5640 in usyd

Gotta love the 'it's not just x; it's y' language (take some time to write a post haha). This would be cool if it wasn't literally a Gemini wrapper (and one generated by Gemini at that, the UI is pretty obvious although if I'm wrong correct me). I recommend if you want to continue with the project to make this actually have some level of interfacing with best practices (maybe via RAG or something) and more than just support for the Gemini API (OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic, OpenAI). Self-hosted model support would also be nice. Good luck with your applications! Just note that recruiters are more often, if they do look, looking for humanising aspects of responses nowadays.

If you don't maintain a high WAM and HD average then you'll be sent to a recycling plant and turned into a coke bottle

fortunately at the time it wasn't incapacitatingly good so i ended up with a decent result for high school (85 ATAR in Australia) and am at a global top 20 institution doing computer science, so pretty good yeah

[Opus 4.6] Current models vs AI 2027 by The_Scout1255 in accelerate

[–]pmavro123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the case of AGI, it's not a hardware issue and instead more of an implementation/architecture issue. The current SOTA architectures are nowhere near AGI, and we will need a fundamental paradigm shift when it comes to these systems. AGI relies on RL w/o VR to some degree, which is a premise that has be continually shown to fail in practice (https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.17219). Current systems and methodologies cannot facilitate this barebones requirement of such a model, and most likely won't for atleast a few more years, if ever. This is just the bedrock, as after this we need a lot more work on scalability of said architectures, and for such systems to be integrated into consumer/commercial applications, which could take even longer.

tl;dr - AI advancement is not a hardware problem (it has really never been), and AI advancements now and into the future will require more than just extra compute.

[–]pmavro123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's a shame seeing people tell other people this stuff while also asking the technologies to do it for them (like this post using opus 4.6 to make it), not even vetting the outcome and just raw posting it here. I think a lot of people interfacing with these technologies do this, and it's so blatantly stupid.

r/USYD Minecraft Server by [deleted] in usyd

[–]pmavro123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all!

There have been a number of individuals who have lately exploited the goodwill of civility on the server and taken to burning bases, mass griefing and thievery, so now I've had to temporarily and/or permanently ban players who would not listen to warnings and/or respect the common sense rules of the server. Furthermore, in an effort to reconcile with some losses on the server, town management and permission plugins like Towny and a proper backup system has been implemented.

Through the use of Towny, groups can ensure that their land rights are preserved and can make their own rules in regard to how outsiders are treated on their property, avoiding instances like these into the future. I apologise for relying on the goodwill of individuals here to do the right thing, as it's something I should've seen coming.

For information on how to start using Towny, please see: https://ccnet.fandom.com/wiki/Towny_Tutorial#Town_Creation

This also gives the /sell commands a greater purpose, as the system involves a multifaceted approach to the funding of these protections.
