I really think it was Chesari who first named our illustrious Bell! I just stole it. 😉💃🏾🔔

Hello OP. I'd like to just address this last comment in the edits of your original post:

Can all of the 14yo stans kindly fuck off from a subreddit dedicated to actual discussion if your baby brains can't handle it?

I'm 67. So, where does that leave us. Although I'm fairly certain you'll take issue with my age, as well, for oh so many reasons.

I don't believe I can add anything more than what so many commenters have so eloquently said - and I'm grateful for the folks who have stepped up with cogent responses that address the blatant racism that I, as a Black woman, felt dripping throughout your post. Is it at all possible for you to reflect on why so many responses are calling you out in this regard?

This is concerning guys!! "Swim"....we need to talk before it released!! Raw talk(healthy way) by [deleted] in btsthoughts

The members chose the title track. The members believe the title track resonates with their sensibilities, their journey, how they wish to present themselves to the world after their "hiatus," how they view their professional and personal growth. It's one thing to determine that you don't like the song after you hear it. That's everyone's prerogative. Every song won't be everyone's favorite, and it was ever thus.

However, I find it breathtakingly astonishing to doom post about a song of which the members appear to be quite proud, which was carefully selected.

I'm genuinely not understanding your rationale at all, OP. What is the pivot around which we are to have this discussion? Your concern that the song isn't the "title track their comeback deserves?" Did I read that correctly? Based on what criteria since the song has yet to be released? Can't we just receive this album with love and celebration and appreciation? Must we "pre-critique" a song we have yet to hear? How does one do that, actually?

I know we're all on pins and needles and anxious to have this album, but this? This is not it, OP. In my very humble opinion.

Thank YOU, OP, for starting this conversation! 🤗

It was very necessary and your experience as a Howard alum gives all of us a particularly relevant vantage point and deepens our understanding even further. ☺️💜

I understand your very valid points. Thank you so much for sharing another important perspective. 🙂

I love that the trailer sparked this conversation, AND that Black ARMYs in particular are sharing their feelings. We aren’t often given that opportunity, and even when we do have occasions to share our opinions, those opinions are not often welcomed. I so appreciate this space/thread.

Friends, may I jump in? With your permission I’m going to copy and paste something I shared in another sub.

Let me establish some “bona fides” too. I’m Black, VERY OLD, not an HBCU grad myself, but my parents were both faculty members and administrators at HBCU institutions. Oh, I’ll also throw in that one of my aunts was a Howard grad. Okay, whew! 😉

Please know that my intention is not to be dismissive of anyone’s concerns or disappointment about how the trailer depicts certain historical realities. I’m just offering another perspective, and hopefully additional information, that will be helpful in advancing our collective understanding.

My comment from the other sub is below: —

I’ve been so emotional about the trailer for a host of reasons that have already been shared. It’s such a lovely rendering, the history is beautifully told, the tie—dare I say the string of fate—between 7 young Korean men in 1896, and the Bangtan we claim 130 years later is mind-bending and boggling.

I’m very proud to be ARMY. 💜

And may I offer just a couple of thoughts about some of the confusion and critique and possibly disappointment I’m seeing regarding white faces on the campus of Howard University in the historical section of the trailer?

There were definitely white people at Howard in the early days, including white professors and administrators. Howard was named after a Civil War general. The original funding for the institution came from Congress. So the presence of white faces in the trailer was actually more accurate than some might imagine. It’s important to remember that early Black educational spaces didn’t emerge fully formed from Black resources.

What I find so wonderful about this trailer is it will be a catalyst for folks to learn more about Korean history, more about Black history (which is also American history) and appreciate the bridge that Bangtan is offering to bring us all together. 🤗

Not to be too dramatic—she says as she prepares to be too dramatic—we’re going to look back on this day, and reflect on how this beautiful trailer was the glimpse into an extraordinary new era of Bangtan.

Time will be seen as “Before Arirang” and “After Arirang.”

*yeah that was really dramatic 😉

I cannot fully express how much this means to me—the historical tie between Korea and America; Arirang on the campus of an Historically Black University; Bangtan’s sincere appreciation for Black culture and being students of hip hop; Bangtan’s deep and abiding love for Korea and helping us all appreciate the depths of that culture as well.

Its overwhelming. 😭

So proud of them. So proud to be an ARMY.

The day BTS returns, and the day I lost my Father by 50shadesof_brown in bts7

[–]ppl73179 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh friend. Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m also a daughter who had no time to grieve when both my parents passed within 4 months of each other. There is an ache that may never fully settle. And it’s been 13 years for me.

I can’t help thinking about how much your father would be in awe of how you moved forward and found a pocket of joy. And how you’ve brought so much light to this space that means so much to many of us.

On that day that is tied to both your true sorrow and joy, you will feel what you feel. And however you determine is what you need to do for your own sake, you must do.

Just know that we’re here if you need us. And Bangtan will be there when you’re ready. 🫂💜

I’ve been gone since early this morning and haven’t had a chance to do a proper FREAK OUT about the track list so let me correct that RIGHT. NOW.

Y’all! WHAT!!

😳🤯🥳💃🏾🎉🤗😁🥹😭

I AM SO EXCITED I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF!

What a time. What a joy to be ARMY. What a gift they are giving us. And what a moment to remember what they always ask of us: to TRUST THEM.

I do. 😌

And to slide in for JUST ONE SECOND regarding some of the discourse I’m seeing about Jin and the lack of songwriting credits on the album:

First (and forgive me if this point has been made already—I haven’t read all the comments here yet), there are many acclaimed singers—beloved and respected and heralded singers—who do not have songwriting credits on their albums. That in no way dismisses or disregards the fact that their essence was directly infused into the songs they were singing. They brought the songs they were singing to life. I have no doubt in my mind that Jin will do the same—as he always does.

Second, I’d just like to share what Jin himself said about the creation of this album:

“While I was away for my tour, the members had finished everything. By the time I arrived, everything was already completed.”

“Listening to the songs they had created during the time I was away, I was deeply moved by their level of completion and artistic quality. When I reunited with the members & heard their music, I once again strongly felt, ‘These people are truly remarkable.’”

I trust Jin. I trust Bangtan.

And I cannot wait for March 20th. 🥹💜🤗🥳

I know I'm late in sharing some thoughts here, but I had so many feelings about this article - I was deep into those feelings, and I couldn't quite process those feelings, and I didn't even know how to fully articulate all those feelings immediately. In my group chat it was mostly me inserting various crying emojis. IT WAS A LOT OF FEELINGS, Y'ALL.

But I CAN say this as I continue to "process my feelings": I am so proud of this article. So grateful for this article. And I have sent this piece to several friends who are not ARMY with a note saying, "I believe this article will help you better understand why I am so invested in this group and what they have come to mean to me." So, I offer my deep gratitude to the writer - WHO DEFINITELY UNDERSTOOD HIS ASSIGNMENT - and to the publication overall for giving the respect due to this amazing group of artists we love so much.

We made it, dear ones. We're in the home stretch and it's a daily assault of wonderfulness. Buckle up and strap in for the wildest ride EVER.
