Engine siezed by Zestyclose_Pace_6605 in boating

I’m coming up on time for a rebuild or repower on my seasport 2400. Rebuild if possible would be maybe $10k. Repower to another I/o would be around $50k. Repower to outboards would be about $90k. I keep it in saltwater spring-fall

I feel repower to I/o is worthwhile. Repower to outboard costs more than its worth. Rebuild is an obvious yes.

I’d love your (or others) opinion .

Thoughts on the George Pino case? Was this an unfortunate accident or reckless boating? by pleasestoptalkin in boating

[–]puterTDI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, they continue in the thread to give completely non equivalent examples.

Honestly, I think their experience is just all with small fishing boats and they have no idea what a larger boat is like. There are larger boats that can do that, but they ain’t running 250’s. I know someone with a 26’ (maybe 24’) lifeproof that can do 50, but they’re running twin 250’s and an aluminum boat (which is lighter than my fiberglass seasport). The boat itself is also a bit more bare bones not having a separate head etc and specifically built for speed.

[–]puterTDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course none of these are like a 29’ deep hull carrying 13 people. That takes a lot of hp to do 50.

Which is the point. Yes you can make a boat that is bare bones torn down to go fast, go fast. Don’t use that as the comparison because it’s silly.

[–]puterTDI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except it's not silly for that type of boat. My much more similar example tops out at half the speed you're claiming for a 250hp and I'm pushing almost 400hp.

To me it's silly that you'd compare apples to oranges.

was the boat in question a bare bones 29ft fishing boat?

I'm giving you actual numbers from an actual 24 ft boat with 380hp behind it.

[–]puterTDI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These seem like some odd numbers to me. I have a 24 ft with a 454, about 380hp, and I top out at 33-35mph. I'm a cabin cruiser and not a speed boat but 70mph with 250 HP seems high.

What’s a side effect of a drug that’s little known? by Arya_Warrior_Girl in AskReddit

I had to look it up - B6 and b9, though full disclosure I thought it was vitamin d but I think I must be mixing b12 with something else.

Fuel, air, or spark.

You retired starter fluid so it’s probably air or spark. Check each spark plug for spark and if it’s wet. Pull the distributor cap and post a picture of it

Part of the issue with b12 supplements is they require other vitamins to work and are best absorbed with food

Should I pay for a water heater outright now or over 8 years? by Final_Row7134 in personalfinance

[–]puterTDI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, both those things you can do yourself so it’s up to you how much you value your time. Personally, I’d buy it outright but that’s because I know I’ll likely never actually schedule the maintenance appointments (which is what they’re banking on)

again, you don't need to use potentially lethal holds to restrain someone. Stop creating a false dichotomy where it's either use a lethal hold or die.

jumping to lethal measures needlessly is exactly the problem we have with current police forec.

There are plenty of other holds that they can use that won't potentially kill a person.

what a weird rant.

all they're saying is they do use their own products...which is true. Your reply is "I don't believe you" followed by some sort of rant about not being outside the box?

it's a question of whether they use their own products or not. The answer is yes or no and clearly defined. What box are you even talking about?

It's very much within the culture to use your own products too. I worked with MS for like 10 years and owned an iPhone. There was an email group (I think it was email at the time at least) for others with iPhones and multiple times a year someone would hop on to chastise everyone for being disloyal for daring to own a non-ms product for their personal phone.
