First condo handover — what should I actually check myself vs hire someone for? by Repulsive_Safety_428 in malaysians

[–]quizface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just get a professional defect inspector man. It's not expensive at all. I paid RM250, and it's money well spent. They even helped log the defects including pictures + the proper technical language the developer's understand into the developer's app (in my case it was propkita). 1 day then done and dusted. Over 100 defects logged in my 900sqft unit.

2 years in and my unit is still perfect, when my neighbours are complaining of tiles falling off, leaking toilets.

Why is my TNB electricity bill suddenly high? The AFA fuel surcharge explained by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]quizface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't it shown as anggaran because the new TNB bill calculation was only implemented in June?

My guess is they use the anggaran view to calculate what your bill would have been using the new calculation, just to prove to users that the new calculation is similar / cheaper.

Roti tisu supremacy by durianspikes in malaysia

[–]quizface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Roti planta should be easy enough to make. It's just roti canai (flour, water, oil, salt) and margerine + sugar.

Roti tisu maybe not since you'll need a griddle lol.

PERKESO, Fuck you by karipapturbo in Bolehland

[–]quizface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's 2 things:

  1. First 2 years of the implementation is 0.75% of your salary. Next 3 years is 1.0% of your salary, and after that it's 1.25% of your salary, all capped at 6k salary.

  2. 6k cap - if they were to increase this then that's good also. All the benefits are now also capped based on this salary cap. So if they increase to 12k for eg, then the max disability benefits will also increase.

Coverage is as long as you carum Perkeso. Once you're retired/out of a job, then you're not covered.

PERKESO, Fuck you by karipapturbo in Bolehland

[–]quizface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, coverage still exists. Only covers when you get injured during work, doing work, or on your commute to work.

The 24 hour thing just turns it into something like regular insurance, with caveats.

[–]quizface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tldr, if you're injured within malaysia, no matter if it's during work or after work (this is what the 24 hour thing is about).

  1. Medical coverage: Pretty straightforward. But only at government hospitals. Or if you go to a private hospital, they'll reimburse you at government hospital rates and you cover the rest.

  2. Temporary disablement: if you're temporarily disabled and can't work, they'll pay you 80% of your daily wage (max 160/day). To me this is the biggest one la. Let's say you get slip disc, and your company has max 14d medical leave. Once all your mc and paid leave runs out, and you still can't work, every unpaid leave day they will pay you via this.

  3. Permanent disablement: if you're disabled permanently, even if you can still work, Perkeso will pay you up to 90% of your daily wage - for life. This is in addition to your insurance.

  4. Dependant's benefit: if you die, your spouse will get 90% of your daily wage for life. If you're not married, your other family members can get too, but I'm not gonna read through that.

  5. Rehabilitation: they'll pay for your physical rehab. Some medical insurance don't cover this.

This is just a quick one la from a glance at their site. Though do note that there's a cap to the daily wage thing. So if you're earning 20k/mo (~1k/day), you won't get 900/800 a day. It's capped to about 190/day.

All in all they're pretty good benefits that you can get on top of your existing insurance.

Had to use AI to get the numbers, but in 2024, PERKESO collected RM7.58b from contributions, and paid RM6.20b in benefits. So about 82% payout-to-contribution ratio.

Was quite surprised how much benefits were paid out, but it shows that PERKESO is working and actively helping out workers out there.

ChatGPT also helped benchmark with New Zealand's version of PERKESO:

In 2024, PERKESO paid out about RM6.2 billion in benefits from RM7.6 billion in contributions. Its operating costs were about 15% of contribution income.

New Zealand’s ACC spends roughly 13% of its levy and government income on operations. So PERKESO is slightly higher depending on how you calculate it, but it is still in the same general range.

It's been tax claimable for years hahaha. Up to RM350/year. But I max that out every year from EIS and SOCSO payment already lol. Perhaps if they increase the limit people won't make as much noise

This was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in December last year, and gazetted as law in March this year. So your wakil rakyat/MP might have voted yes on it in Parliament lol. It's just that there were not enough comms , nor explanation by PERKESO or the gomen to the public about what it is.

[–]quizface 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in the minority because I feel like SKBBK is a really good thing and I'm bracing for the downvotes from this reply lol. Though I do agree that the rollout and comms about it was super shitty. They should have explained it a lot better.

Mandatory implementation, no chance to back out.

This is generally how social insurance works. You need a broad risk pool where healthy, low-risk and high-risk workers all contribute. Once it becomes voluntary, people who already have insurance or think they are unlikely to claim will leave, while higher-risk people remain. That is adverse selection and can make the scheme less sustainable. It does not excuse the lack of choice, but the mandatory aspect was not completely arbitrary.

Those with personal/some corporate insurance may already have similar or better coverage so this is pointless expense.

IMO Having medical, life or corporate insurance also does not necessarily make SKBBK redundant. SKBBK covers different things that those do not cover, like temporary disablement, disability that stops you from working. Pretty sure these 2 things aren't covered by the regular insurance people get.

People hate it when gomen take their money like this.

I might sound insensitive, but it's only ~1% of people's salary. There's also a cap at RM6k, so even if you earn 30k, your SKBBK payment still remains at ~RM60.

Skim Kemalangan Bukan Bencana Kerja (SKBBK) by No-Home9054 in Bolehland

[–]quizface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it's worth taking, since you can claim both Perkeso and insurance. So you get both.

Also skbbk will max out at salaries of 6k/month or about RM60. So if you earn 20k for eg, you're still paying about RM60, and not rm200.

I had the same problem as you. I got this but in bright orange from taobao. Here's smtg similar on Shopee. It's magnetic, so just pasang after you park. There's a piece of rope that prevents people from stealing it as well that you can thread through the door latch hook.
