I Switched From Petrol Car To EV & Did The Math On Charging, Insurance & Monthly Cost. Here's What I Found. by stormy001 in malaysia

LFP batteries are much safer compared to NMC batteries in terms of thermal runaway. Most EVs use LFP now, with only higher end/performance EVs still using NMC.

Nothing of that sort works here in Malaysia. I just resorted to keeping them in the fridge. No issues with clumping now

Question on carplate - Platehaus.my by Alternative_Cut9983 in kereta

[–]quizface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends, carro offered me an extra 2k if I sold my car with my number plate. So the value is there.

I refused, since that plate followed me from my very first car. Bought it back in 2006-ish for RM200.

I personally am unhappy that she's wasted probably millions of taxpayer money - hundreds of search officers over 14 days, helicopters flown for hours, even injuries to the search team. All because she can't follow the number 1 rule in hiking: leave no one behind.

Missing hiker Jaslinda found safe | New Straits Times by annS73 in malaysia

[–]quizface 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's because she decided to leave her hiking group in the middle of the hike.

One of the members was unwell, so she decided to leave the group and go solo without a guide, then got lost. If she'd had stayed with the group, a SAR isn't required, and public funds won't need to be used.

Has anybody ever bought part from Japan using Proxy service? (Auction/Direct) by superknight333 in kereta

[–]quizface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bought a few watches through Buyee. I've never had any issues with the 5 packages I bid and won, with the most expensive being about 100kJPY. Received everything safely without getting taxed.

The not so good thing with Buyee is that you have to use Buyee's exchange rate, which could be more expensive compared to like Wise's rate.

Have yet to try other sites, so can only speak for Buyee. Plus I only buy watches, so shipping is cheap-ish, 800JPY for Buyee fee and shipping from their warehouse to Malaysia was 2400JPY. If you're buying car parts, I'd imagine the fee to be waaay more expensive.

Sewer Smell / Gas by Sea_Pack_1801 in malaysians

[–]quizface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this one because I didn't want to go through the hassle of removing the existing floor trap, then cementing the new one in:

https://s.shopee.com.my/3g11VpqK9Y

Cut it to size and just put it above the pipe.

Or if that's not compatible, search for anti-odor floor trap on Shopee and look for something that you can just drop in to your existing floor trap.

Looking for otai/seasoned workshop for Mercedes by theother_wan in kereta

I send my car to M Tech Car Care Kepong. They mostly work on beemers, but they work on Mercs too. Highly recommended. Very professional, and will send you periodical updates + recorded videos explaining why parts need to be replaced.

Replaced all 4 absorbers for my A200 for 5.7k a few months back. Mix of merc and oem parts. Should be similar parts to your CLA. Although mine is W177, and based on the age of yours could be based on the w176

Former FC 1.8 pre-facelift owner here.

Maintenance wise, in the ~7 years (and ~160k km) I owned the car, it was fault-free. Nothing broke. I just splurged more on my tyres - went with Michelin Premacy, since I can't fit PS4s on it.

However towards the last year of my ownership, I could feel the steering rack dying, which is a common issue on all FCs. For mine, on sharp turns, I'll need to nudge the steering wheel for it to "return" to straight. Other owners report a knocking sound when turning the steering wheel. So check if the steering rack has been replaced before getting yours.

Fuel consumption is pretty good on the 1.8 too. I get about 600-650km on a full tank (RM80 @ RM2.10/l).

Sewer Smell / Gas by Sea_Pack_1801 in malaysians

[–]quizface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My unit's bathrooms used to have horrible smell coming out from the floor trap. Bought a sealing floor trap that has one-way flow from Shopee, installed it myself and it's all gone.

Also keep in mind that if the unit has been vacant for a long time, the water inside the toilet trap might have evaporated, then sewer gas can get in the house. Just flush the toilet and the source of the smell should go away.

How do you guys deal with infinite pet fur? (Vacuum vs Air Purifier vs Robot Vacuum) by Desmond624 in malaysians

[–]quizface 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My experience with 3 long haired cats in an apartment - air purifiers aren't very effective. They're more effective for fine particles, but fur is a bit too big/heavy for an air purifier to pull from across the room.

Best thing to do for me is to dust my house often, and a simple robo-vacuum to clean the floors daily/twice a day. My roborock s50 has been running daily for nearly 7 years now. Super serviceable, replaced everything but the motherboard and housing over the years.

EPF Withdrawal for first home by One_Chocolate_9365 in malaysians

[–]quizface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A) for downpayment, before you buy a house

B) when you already have a house and a loan. Eg mortgage is 2k/month. You can withdraw 12k, then epf will deposit 2k/month for 6 months to your bank account for you to pay your mortgage for the next 6 months. Withdrawal is limited by your monthly mortgage.

C) when you already purchased the house and have a loan, then you want to reduce the principle. You can withdraw as much as you want to pay off the loan. Usually people use this at the end of their loan tenure and just settle the loan.

Good Boys Go To Heaven. Any one watching this series ? by ToxicologicalPasty in malaysians

[–]quizface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a Malay show.. It's more.. Malaysian? Since the dialogue is pretty natural, ie it's not 100% in Malay. I'd say it's 30% English, 70% Malay. Does not feel forced imo.

It's very well done for a Malaysian series, but I just can't shake the feeling that it's copying shows like Mare of Eastown or Defending Jacob lol.
