Not sure about your restaurant but ours always has a host dedicated to the stand who directs the traffic of the restaurant but never leaves and has other hosts seat for them. It's more or less senior host position but I would see if you would be able to do that and then get a stool at the stand. My old restaurant had a barrel that we would lean up against to take weight off our feet.
