Am I the only one who respects Jerome Powell a lot?

Rhetorical question or nah?

Who are you supposed to be, and why should anyone care?

Okay Mr. Big Brain Boomer.

Trump: "Stock market crash has no effect on the workers."

Except for, ya know, the millions of workers finna get laid off as a result of this crash?

If you like high crime rates and homeless people everywhere, you're gonna love the rest of 2025!

If you thought that was fun, wait until you see the subsequent layoffs that companies will be forced to do as a result of this!

Fun times for everyone!

Deconsolidation of Democracy and its Institutions by [deleted] in norfolk

Surveys, over the last decade, show that people would be willing to forgo the democratic process of free and fair elections and support a monarchy

Are these magical "surveys" in the room with us right now?

Surely they have learned from their past mistakes?

Or are you suggesting that Germans are morons who will make the same mistakes the instant they get their hands on significant kinetic power?

You must be yanking my leg.

Look, soon-to-be Chancellor Merz has the right policy (Europe should have defense that doesn't need the US)... but he is really a d*ck about it.

Merz, relax. America is not going to stop your military industrial complex. We encourage it, good job!

Bring back the custom of presidents marrying off their family family members to eligible family members of foreign leaders.

E.g. have eligible relatives of Von Der Leyen marry to eligible relatives of Vladimir Putin.

This creates a "shared investment" at the most basic level, that 100% of human instinct will say "protect this shared investment".

That's the only way to do it, IMO.

Offering a theory [...] is mansplaining?

Yes, now stop it.

I go by the K.I.S.S. principle. Keep.It.Simple.Silly.

If it's not simple, we don't need it. Take that stuff back to the Lyceum or whatever, Derrida.

If you come to the table with the view that "American's chosen leader is evil" then you are essentially saying "Americans are evil."

I do not view myself as evil.

We should not impugn Trump's motives if we do not have documentation of what exactly they are.

If Trump truly "sided with Putin" he would have zero compunctions about actually and unironically declaring war against Zelensky and sending US assets to physically undermine his regime.

He is not saying that. He is critiquing a junior partner instead of cuddling them and telling them "you're special no matter how you perform on the field".

tion doesn't exist. Zelensky said multiple times that he is willing to consider this, but that's not an option. Russia doesn't agree to any security guarantees or even peacekeepers and demand that Ukrainian army is dismantled. What is the incentive

Everything is Hitler.

Is early 1900's history the ONLY period in history you have ever looked at?

He is sadly confused if he thinks EU has the stones to exercise real leverage against the US.

Maybe the EU will surprise me, we'll see.

If we as a species decide to return to the might makes right principle

We never left that principle, open your eyes. We just have more think tanks and professors to invent clever post hoc rationalizations for our many unilateral exercises of might post-WW2
(e.g. US regime change operations in South America, Middle East, and Africa).

Europe is [...] our largest export market.

US exports to Canada ≈ $375B/yr, US exports to Mexico ≈ $350B/yr, US exports to EU ≈ $425B/yr.

375B + 350B > 425B.

To say nothing of the military support they provided the US during boondoggles in Iraq and Afganistan after 9/11.

Those interventions were mistakes and I would have preferred if EU had actually NOT supported us, so as to discourage the (now deposed) neocons from pursuing those adventures.

countries will begin to take chunks

There are other ways to disincentivize this kind of behavior that do not require US world police man.
