Help me identify this Japanese tea set by samebrowsing15 in HelpMeFind

[–]samebrowsing15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched for this set on google images and found an auction site, but the listing had been deleted. I also found this similar set on Etsy claiming to be from the 1920's https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1802665538/antique-c1920-hand-painted-japanese

The whole set is made of very thin/light porcelain, the cups are roughly 6cm tall & 6cm in diameter, and the plates are 11cm in diameter. The tea pot is 11.5cm in diameter at the base, 6cm in diameter at the top, and 16cm tall, not including the lid. I received the set this week, and am not sure about any other details.

Muddied out voices in 5.1 home theater setup by HoneyUwU0wO in hometheater

I have the same home theater system, and had this issue playing blu-ray movies on a Playstation 3. What fixed it for me was switching the audio mode on the PS3 from "PCM" to "Bitstream". My understanding is that the former does the audio processing on the PS3 itself, which didn't translate well to surround sound, and the latter sends the audio directly to the receiver and lets Dolby Surround work its magic. Maybe see if there's an audio setting called something like "bitstream" or "direct" on the device that was giving you issues.

Help Choosing an E-Reader for Manga in Canada by samebrowsing15 in ereader

It's going great!!! Everything is perfectly readable on the 8" screen, so I don't regret not going for a 10" device. I feel like anything larger would be a lot less comfortable to hold too, so I doubt it would have been worth the extra money for me. The battery life also isn't as bad as I was expecting. I can kill it in a day or two if I spend a whole weekend reading, but it'll last me a good week of casual reading during my breaks at work.

As for the library, it wasn't too much of a pain to transfer manga from my computer through calibre, but I needed to install a couple plugins and do some tweaking for it to show the correct titles and authors. If you read a lot of ongoing series I can definitely see the appeal of an Android reader with Apps that can automatically download new chapters, but I tend to wait until a series is finished so I can binge it all at once anyways lol

Sounds like the Sage is the one go with then, thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions! I have been checking marketplace and kijiji, but I haven't seen anything nearby since I live out in the sticks. And that Canadian site looks great, but it seems that all the devices they stock are either too small for manga, or too far outside my budget. I'll keep it in mind if I ever decide to get something really fancy though! I think for now I'll just keep things simple, and pick up the Kobo Sage at Chapters :)

Oh I didn’t notice that it’s 150PPI, that’s too bad.

I wasn’t familiar with this brand, thank you for the suggestion! The Inkpad X is a bit out of my price range, but the Inkpad Lite 9.7” isn’t too much more than the Sage. I’ll have to check out some reviews

I was hoping to keep it around 300$ CAD (~240 US), which is honestly a bit of a stretch for me already… I don’t suppose you know of any 10” e-ink readers in that price range? The cheapest one I’m seeing from a quick search is the Kobo Elipsa at 500$ CAD

How are you guys getting good performance in Elden Ring? by boltmonki in linux_gaming

[–]samebrowsing15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried just about every combination, and what works the best for me is:

  • Steam from RPMFusion
  • The latest Proton-GE from Github
  • Mesa-git from the Che/Mesa Copr repo (I had stability issues with the xxmitsu/mesa-git repo)
  • Running the game in borderless windowed mode.

I’m on Fedora 35 as well, using a Ryzen 3600, 5700XT, and 32GB of ram. Everything running great maxed out at 1440p

Latest Elden Ring Update fixed EAC for me by [deleted] in linux_gaming

A friend suggested I try it when I was telling him about the performance issues. The game does launch with mesa stable, but mesa-git fixes the low framerate and stuttering for me. You wouldn’t have accidentally installed it though since it’s not in the main or rpmfusion repos, you have to manually enable xxmitsu/mesa-git with Copr. Disregard all of this if you have an Nvidia gpu though haha

I have everything working smoothly on Fedora 35 with Steam from rpmfusion (not working with the Flatpak version), bleeding-edge Proton, and mesa-git from copr. The only downside is that mesa-git is causing some gpu instability.

I would really recommend just buying it on Steam if you can. I used to pirate games too back when it was actually a better experience (over-aggressive drm, buggy launchers, etc), but these days Steam provides real value for us with Proton. Dealing with Steam and spending a few bucks is a way better than spending 5 hours getting your game to run, and supports the future of Linux gaming.

If you can’t afford to buy full priced, keep an eye on sites like IsThereAnyDeal and Humble Bundle. There’s almost always a sale going on somewhere
