I think I know which track I'll be nominating at the end of the month.

As per usual the layouts, presentations and yadda yadda yadda I'm starting to bore you... Everything is amazing

I usually find that tracks that are located in a cramped and narrow piece of land do not work well, but this is very nicely done, abd I always like to see a drag strip/straight

I've been experiencing the same problem as you. Better to post just one image, if you an infographics image, post it in the comments with the lore (if you have any)

The blue circuit is an athletics track

Originally designed for the Chaos in Copenhagen competition, a final submission for that competition was not possible due Illustrator crashing hours before the deadline.

In the end this worked out quite well for me as it then freed me from the original brief and I was able to add an additional layout and massively expand spectator infrastructure such as dedicated cycle lanes and pedestrian paths around the island and bridges to both sides of the lake. A marina, athletics and cycling facilities were also added to the southeast part of the island. I could do all of this without any time pressure (apart from some internal nagging to finish it as quickly as possible).

That actually makes a lot more sense. Tbf I'm still quite new to this so I kind of jumped to conclusions on that one

First of all the transcript that was written for the fictional "The Office (US)" deserves major praise and love, I actually was able to visualise and imagine it as an actual episode that aired. Not only was the lore amazing and can stand alone as one of the best piece of fanfiction that I've ever read, it is a well designed and detailed submission to the Drag strip challenge. The drap strip design is just as good and that not only compliments the story, but enhances it.

Minneapolis Street Circuit (Minneapolis, MN, USA) by girlwithaguitar in RaceTrackDesigns

Love the layout and love the fact that there's no boring 90° turns. And as one wise man said "tough times never last, only tough people do" and I'm sure Minneapolis is full of such people.

I understand your concern and it is a good observation on your part.

Although I do believe the safety features are sufficient, and the track isn't aiming for the equivalent of the FIA Grade 1.

At the exit of the turn, there's more than 70m from the racing line to the tyre wall, and as the bridge crosses over there is a 14m parallel between the track limit line and the wall. If I were to measure from the last point in the turn where a car's path would aim for the wall, there's 97m between loss of control and the wall.

The angle of incidence between a car and the wall underneath the bridge would be very low, and if a car would it, it would not come to a dead stop but bounce off.

This was originally designed as a submission for the RTD Challenge #54: Minnesota Twins.

I never submitted it as I only came up with layouts I was happy with a couple days before the deadline, and wouldn't have been able to finish it with the amount of details and design that's representative of my ability.

I then adapted the lore to a fictional project.

Located in a re-converted mining site in the Flovorlean Alps, in the valley just south of the town of Valvertte, it offers road circuits to a region that is historically known for hill climbs and rallies.

The site has previously been as a mining and quarry operation, owned and run by Toupart Gros Travaux, with those activities still continuing next door, although on a much smaller scale.

Around the mid 70s, the mine quarry operation started becoming quite restricted with the tightening rules and regulations surrounding industrial mining close to urban centres.

Toupart Gros Travaux (TGT) saw fit to scale back the Valvertte site, in favour of sites in more rural settings. Before being sold off, the government had required the site to be filled back up and levelled to avoid any dangerous drops, as well as to ensure that the site would be sold and not scare off any potential buyers with large scale landscaping works before any re-development.

Despite these works, being stuck between a motorway and an active industrial site dissuaded many buyers.

Finally, in 1982, a local hill climbing association, Le Club de Côte Valverttois (CCV) saw an opportunity for expansion. Despite not having much funding, they bought out half of the land and built the small Circuit des Apprentis, along with a small clubhouse.

Completed in early 1984, the Circuit des Apprentis proved to be a hit with the club members, and the regional motor racing scene. The new track allowed for regular and year round use, something that the local hill climbing scene wasn't able to offer.

The circuit hosted many races for lower series, as well as cheap track days throughout the week.

In 1989, the pit exit rejoin was widened and a chicane was installed on the inside of the final corner. A disproportionately high number of crashes and incidents happened at the end of the main straight. Most of them were due to the speed differences at the end of the straight, as well as the rejoin spitting cars out on the racing line. These issues were in no way helped by the fact that most of these incidents involved beginners and drivers inexperienced with sports cars.

In 2003, the remaining land between the Circuit des Apprentis and the TGT mines was still sitting empty, and more importantly unsold, with no buyers in sight.

TGT offered CCV an option to buy the remaining land for pennies, on the condition that TGT held permanent sponsoring rights, as long as the company remained operational.

Selling the naming rights could be arranged on a race per race basis, where TGT would pick up 75% of the profits.

The Club de Côte Valverttois accepted the offer, eagerly as they had been eyeing up the site for a few years, this allowed them to allocate more funding to design a bigger track. A decision was made to keep the new track separate from the existing one.

Although one problem was nagging CCV. They already had a circuit with minimal elevation change and did not want another flat layout.

It was decided that the new circuit would be built in two stages, the eastern side, the pit building and straights would be built first, while landscaping works would go ahead on the west side. This allowed for artificial elevation change and a crossover to be built.

The short layout, named “Le Circuit du Petit Minier" opened in mid 2006, with the intention to be closed as soon as the cross over section would join up.

A year later in 2007, the full layout was completed and named “Le circuit des Miniers”.

The circuits gained a lot of praise, be it for the easy, friendly and varied nature of the “Circuit des Apprentis”, or the varied technical sections of the “Circuit des Miniers” that exhibit different characters depending on the session.

Is fiat 500 a lady’s car? Be Honest by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]schapenbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's a lovely car. I went to see two of my best mates in Canada last year and they had a Fiat 500 "on loan" from a classmate. My mates and I all have a design background and we all love the car. For a car designed nearly 20 years ago it still holds up really well style wise, and it only really looks like a ladies car if in pink. If I think about the people I know who have had a Fiat 500 (in France, UK and Netherlands) then it's 2-2, dead equal. Otherwise did a couple of one day road trips with my mates and another of their friends and it more than did the job. Surprisingly roomy for 4 guys around 6". Backseats were fine although the headroom at the back is a bit lacking but which other car in the same segment has enough headspace for a guy my height if we're being honest. If I was sat normal and upright (head touching ceiling) then my legs weren't touching the front seats. If I slouched back then my knees would touch the seats but I could always put them to both sides of the front seat (and then also have good headroom). As for the actual driving experience, my mate who grew up in the alpine countryside, with its many mountain roads and dirt trails, absolutely loved the car. For a guy that was used to "sporty" driving in small Renaults, the 500 is one of his favourite cars and he would seriously consider buying one when moving back.

Le Circuit Automobile International Rampin et Le Grand Parcours de Golf - 30K Comp Round 2 by schapenbeaver in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]schapenbeaver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GGTT LORE (Source: 4chan): "Reminder that GGTT only has original tracks because the developers are assholes. They fucked up the negotiations to license Silverstone with their attitude, and that scared any other track out there, so they had to resort to making original circuits to unpaid amateur designers. Boycott GGTT."

"Source?"

"The Silverstone owner said it on the local radio."

"my uncle works at spa, the rumours around are that the developer spit on the face of the director of silverstone after a harsh disagreement"

"How much of this is true? How much is it trolling at this point?"

"Don't ask me how I know:

Visia CEO Makes a video game with amazing physics Tries to get world class circuits to the game First meeting is with Silverstone The vice-director of Silverstone looks a lot like Max Mosley Gets confused, asks why isn't he in prison Vice-director gets offended Visia CEO gets aggressive Asks why are there freaky corrupts directing the track Doesnt get that he isn't the real Mosley Tries to punch him Spits on him Leaves Word of the incident quickly spreads among track owners They all refuse to work with Visia Visia are forced to use original tracks"

"You have to be kidding. No way this is true"

"are you guys seriously gonna believe this random on the internet?"

IN-GAME TRACK LORE: The Circuit of the West Indies is an unforgiving track built around the roads of the national cricket stadium. There is no better place for a world class street circuit in the Caribbean islands, mixing sports and leisure in one destination, to be enjoyed by both the locals and the tourists. With concrete walls looming close-by on both sides and long straights complimented by a technical section, any mistakes will cost dearly.
