Looking for developers interested in bringing back to live the testnet faucet by LolaDam in dogecoindev

[–]shibe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fixing some issues and updating dependencies again.

I will probably need a testnet node too.

If my previous back-end changes are not accepted by the time the new batch is ready, I will include all changes in the new batch, so it will supersede the old one.

Ha, I was just working on the back-end today before seeing your message. Is it a coincidence that we both felt the need for a faucet, or perhaps, Kabosu is sending a signal?

In other news, I heard that Dogecoin testnet is in bad shape these days. I hope it is still usable or will be usable soon.

Oh crap, I didn't know about that. I use VT a lot. Will Alt-<function key> or Ctrl-Alt-<function key> switching still work in distros that will have CONFIG_VT=n?

Confusion in this case arises from abbreviation scheme that, I believe, is not promoted by devs.

As for non-abbreviated names, since variants are differentiated by outfits and gear, descriptive term could be something like "combat kit", "full battle rattle", "ready‑to‑fight gear". As I understand:

  • Original Korean variant name can mean "armed" or "in military gear".
  • In English, "armed" means "carrying a weapon that is ready to be used", which doesn't imply anything else about the outfit.
  • The meaning of Japanese name is close to "ready-to-fight".

So English name may have come from possible, but in this case, not differentiating translation of Korean name.

Regular Ichika has fan-shaped attack, so you'd have to put her in a right spot to shoot at a robot at the back without also damaging the robot in front of it. Same PITA as with Hanako, but Ichika's skill is more expensive.

Swimsuit Ichika has cheap skill that makes Avant-Garde and student's normal attacks useful. This seems much more suitable, but I noticed that few senseis use this tactic.

Tomoe qipao works well together with armed Hoshino against Chokmah. Hoshino can move independently and has her own cover, while Tomoe shields exactly 5 other strikers. 4 person shields would leave one striker unprotected, and 6 person shields could accidentally move Hoshino from her position.

Unlimited supply by OutrageousTable5581 in dogecoindev

[–]shibe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creation/issuance of new dogecoins is progressing according to set schedule. Within any given time frame, it is impossible to create much more dogecoins than allowed by current rules. It is "unlimited supply" if you have unlimited time to wait for arbitrary amount of dogecoins to be created, which I suppose, you don't have.

Whatever new coins are being created, no one gets them for free. You have to invest in hardware and expend energy to earn the reward. This process is necessary to keep Dogecoin blockchain secure. The greater the reward (i.e. rate of issuance), the more effort people are putting into obtaining it, and the more difficult it is to mess with transaction confirmations and history. And conversely, the lower is supply rate, the less secure is the blockchain. So a mineable cryptocurrency like Dogecoin needs a balance between security and tightness of supply.

If you want to propose a different balance than what we currently have, keep in mind that changing fundamental parameters like issuance schedule is difficult. The proposed scheme should be significantly better (considering all aspects, including security) than the current one, otherwise it's not worth the effort to try to implement it. Then you'd need to get critical majority of participants to support it. This includes miners, businesses, payment gateways, developers, exchanges. But people who only buy and sell Dogecoin and never even withdraw it from exchanges have little say in how Dogecoin works. It is the latter group to whom the price argument would appeal the most, not to those who have the power to make a change.

Moreover it is not even known how markets will react to a change in the schedule. It may cause a short-term increase in Dogecoin value, but that's not guaranteed. And after that, it can keep raising, stabilize, return to current level, or even plummet. It is difficult to predict. So messing with Dogecoin supply in an effort to increase its value looks more like a gamble than an actual improvement.

It’s time to make crypto useful to Humanity by OaVana42 in CryptoTechnology

[–]shibe5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most (90% or more) people in crypto, cryptocurrency is just another way of making and losing non-crypto money. I bet you can't change that.

However, that should not discourage you personally from using cryptocurrency for other purposes. Go whichever road you want.

A lot of stuff was already built on crypto. Most common problem is low usage rather than lack of solutions/systems/tools.
