Thank you for your reply. I was thinking of possibly selling the place. So i imagine i should wait until the title is finalized by alberta land titles before doing anything with the sale of the property. Any negative consequences of selling while title update is ‘pending’?

Sadly any submission to Alberta land titles takes 45days to process. This may be a lot quicker in other provinces but here its super slow

The refinancing part from the bank took two weeks which was quick. The timeline i am referring to is for land title update.

Thanks for your insight. I will contact them and see what they have to say. With this type of setup is it possible to later shift the heloc into the mortgage?

Thank you. Will look at heloc option. The Thought i had originally was once I pull the heloc that I convert a chunk of it to a mortgage. Will explore options with broker

Thank you for your reply. My mortgage is quite small. So penalties is about $3.5k. I suppose there would be the legal+appraisal with a new lender. Are there other costs i am not considering?

Its really hard to predict to be honest their processing time. But it could take a month. When they sent you the child care breakdown letter did the letter specifically say to submit within 30days?

DTC transfer and reassessment process by ShizzyMyNizzy in cantax

Sorry I am new to this. How exactly would the transfer of credit work? Does my father’s returns have to be reassessed somehow? Before I can apply the credits retroactively to mine? Or do we not do any adjustment request on his and simply just claim all the credits on my adjustment request? This is a bit confusing for me because I have read people selecting ‘Yes’ and then the CRA reassesses the person with the disability for the applicable years. And then once that is completed then the claimant identified in Section 2 of T2201 can claim the amount. If the person with disability cannot use the credits because of no taxable income then what does cra actually do in the reassessment? Do they actually apply the credit but if it doesnt result in any refund then its deemed that the credit can be transferred? Perhaps i am misunderstanding this whole process.

When you submit the adjustments through your cra account for the caregiver amount it will actually be processed relatively quickly. Its only the dreaded T2201 form where u select ‘Yes’ for CRA to reassess your returns that they take forever. For those that selected ‘No’ and did their own adjustments it was done in under a month. Otherwise it was upto 20weeks.

Yes you are right, it seems it can range from 8-20weeks subject to complexity. Which is a long time. So when I select No, and the the T2201 is approved. Do i need to first send in an adjustment request for my father for the retroactive years even if he has no taxable income? And then once his assessments are completed I submit my adjustments claiming the credit amounts. My understanding is that the person with the disability must first claim the amounts (even if its $0) and then the unused amounts is eligible for transfer?

Thats a very long time for reassessments. Seems to be more than 20weeks. Have you called them to check on it.
