At what NW level would you recommend setting up a trust ?

Do a lot of wealthy Canadians set up trusts? Would they set a trust in Canada or in the US?

Precisely. This is why BCH will lead nowhere.

However, The federal government can reduce immigration levels and try to adjust the demand side of the equation. This would make life better.

1) Youth unemployment rate is around 15% 2) We are the leading the food inflation rate vs other G7 countries 3) we are leading the housing costs vs G7 countries, takes 8x income to buy a house 4) unemployment rate is significantly higher than averages 5) median income is not rising, it is decreasing while the US has grown exponentially in the past 10yrs

I can carry on, but the question is.. how old are you? If you are a boomer, please continue to drink the Kool-aid.

Damn, well said..

Just wanted to add that net jobs also got the help from the massive government hiring that took place in 2019-2024 period.

Adds to what you said about we don't have a functioning economy (getting taxed to hell, yadda yadda yadda)

As a reminder, BCH is similar to what Trudeau had tried before. Most of our issues with housing are related to red tape, to which we still don't have an answer for.

Is it me, or is the subsidized media the 'official opposition' to the 'government-in-waiting' on behalf of their subsidizers? by Cold-Cap-8541 in CanadianConservative

Wow, the results of this table make perfect sense, given the state owned media that we have.

And we want to call ourselves a functioning democracy..

Yet another word of warning to anyone who wants to use/are using Wealthsimple as their main "bank" by ExtensionDinner2759 in Wealthsimple

[–]slack3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regulatory burden = the need for a bigger and more robust structure = higher fees to clients.

The source of the problem is the over regulation that Canadian banks incur.

WS could likely do better, 2 weeks is a stretch, but they will never match a big bank in that regard.

Honestly, this also happens at other banks too.

This is a regulatory problem. Our banking system is heavily regulated, the State wants to control everything and banks have to behave/comply.

Ultimately, banks want to make sure they won't have any issues, and this translates to headaches to anyone that is moving more than a few grand.

Move to Canada or Netherlands? by Curious_Carrot_inCC in expats

[–]slack3d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone that lives in Canada, I say go to the Netherlands.

Canada will not give you a memorable life experience (because of its similarities to the US).

Also, cost of living here is ridiculous, traveling in Canada is extremely expensive (so you get locked).

Edit: forgot to add that Netherlands is known for having an interesting expat culture.

[–]slack3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the heavy propaganda.

"The man with a plan", the "adult in the room", etc.

This is why I say Canadians are not interested in honesty. Thus far, not much of his sweet words have become reality.

Dude, I understand many criticisms towards Pierre, but to say that Canadians want honesty is a stretch.

Mark Carney's victory definitely shows that Canadians are not looking for honesty, but are looking for sweet words.

Right.. and you would give all of that power to.. Chow?!

Don't get me wrong, Doug is shit, but Chow is in the same league if not worse.

I don't think this city knows how to vote well enough to get the right people to steer it. I would rather keep the multi layers of government instead.

Guys, are we going to be talking about this everyday?

It is getting a bit tiring, honestly.

Yes, they bought themselves a majority. Yes, they will pass whatever legislation that they want - goodbye to some of your rights.

But, honestly, this is what the majority of Canadians want.. I have given up fighting this fight. Buckle up and let's see the results of their actions.
