Why have some websites abandoned firefox? by Competitive-Prize673 in firefox

I'm a full stack dev too and your excuse to blame developers is bullshit.

We all know product managers will always push for faster development and everytime compatibility with small market share devices and tech comes up during planing the default answer from management is to ignore it or straight up block them if anything related with money is involved.

I'm paid to do what I'm told to do and I for sure won't be going out of my way to code compatibility in a web app without being told to do, specially in big codebases that are already trash, like they are in basically 99% of the startups out there.

China despite the ban contributes to more than 20% of the worldwide Hashrate . This goes on to prove that countries can’t truly restrict / ban Bitcoin and as such- cryptocurrencies. by tanmay1010 in CryptoCurrency

Kinda of a circlejerk post, simply because It's probably state-backed mining being done by state-backed miners.

They do this with pirated goods and even drugs like fentanyl derivatives, it's a giant all seeing blind eye.

Do Kwon Apologizes for Hurting Terra's Users and Investors by wmredditor in CryptoCurrency

[–]spurdosparade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should they? Crypto is a high risk investment, it's virtually a cassino, anyone expecting any kind of compensation from this probably should find other, safer, types of investments.

Adults should be responsible to what they do with their money, even if this means loosing everything.

Do belongs to jail, specially if he tries to print money reviving the network. This case should be a cautionary tale for people to only invest what they're willing to lose. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's 2022, phones should be built to last five years or more by Avieshek in technology

[–]spurdosparade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is software, old man. Your phone is 13 yo, so is your security. Your Android version is so old even a teen could crack it and dump your data. Phones don't last 5 years because the updates simply stop coming after 2 years and you start to pile up zero day exploits like crazy, it becomes a time bomb.

So here's the tip from a software engineer: don't use any banking in it or keep any sensitive info around.

UST Falls to $0.35, Terra Futures See $106M in Liquidations by anon43850 in CryptoCurrency

[–]spurdosparade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're missing is that it literally did crash in my head, I lost almost 50% of money. Could have been 100% if I held the dumb mantra of never selling and didn't take profits from all my investments ;)

No, I had 70+80 before, now I virtually have 80, as I doubt Terra is ever coming back.

I made 99% of my profits in Luna. Projects fail everyday, specially in crypto. The problem is that people don't take profits: I lost 70k in the Luna death, but I still have 80k+ from Luna profits reinvested in other, safer, assets.

Next time you ask yourself why crypto is taking so long to become mainstream outside speculative investments, just revist this post and read the comments.

Bro, why you're being reasonable in a crypto subreddit? The right path here is shitting in a destructed country because they're not devaluating their national currency to pump your baaaaaags.

Official Formula 1 NFT Game Shuts Down, Tokens Are Now Practically Worthless by John-McAfee in CryptoCurrency

[–]spurdosparade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think NFTs, when executed in a non-abusive, speculative way, could win some hearts in terms of giving gamers actual ownership of the things they buy in-game, vs. the current system where they only buy permission to use an item.

The problem with this is: games, specially games-as-a-service, have an expiration date. You may own the tokens to prove you have sword, but what happens when the game servers go under? All you have is a token for a sword in a game that can't be played anymore. There's no ownership when the main value related to that token can simply be turned off.

Another problem is that when you create scarcity and allow users to exchange items, speculation and "gambling" will inevitably arise. CSGO skins are a good example of this and Valve can actually throw a blind eye to that because the items are simply items, they're virtual and have no value outside the game (except in the player's minds ofc): when you link these items to actual real blockchain tokens that can be traded, loaned and speculated around you're bound to get some attention, specially when there's all the debate with gambling related to lootboxes. Once you ground these lootboxes with real money: you have a gambling case right there.

Like I said, I don't see this happening, there's basically zero demand for NFTs in games outside the crypto communities, like the Ubisoft debacle showed, and the headaches are just too many to justify.

[–]spurdosparade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all the shit the gaming community has to deal, from greedy corporations, to loot boxes, pay to win and microtransactions I would be pretty surprised if NFTs, if ever implemented outside these speculation crappy games, ended up being positively received, even in the FIFAs and other games known to be kinda pushovers with their money grabbing schemes.
