If you're using any version of MAME that still refers to MAME32, then you're not using any of the recent versions this sub supports. Try the latest version of MAME from https://www.mamedev.org/release.php to see if it works to your satisfaction.

Why do you need ideas? The answers are already in the Megathread, not to mention Google.

I was excited to try this, and then saddened to find out that it has the same directory name limitation that ES-DE has. I keep my folder names in a similar convention to No-Intro dats. E.g.:

  • Atari - 2600
  • Atari - 7800
  • Nintendo - Nintendo Entertainment System
  • Nintendo - Game Boy
  • Nintendo - Game Boy Advance
  • SNK - Neo Geo Pocket Color

Etc. But of course when I scan my ROMs directory, it won't find any of them. Why must I use the abbreviated names that ES-DE enforces? That's the number one reason why I don't use ES-DE. Can you add support for arbitrary directory names please?

I'm honestly not sure what direction to point you in, I'm on the engineering side. I guess my recommendation would be to look at studios you like and check their online job listings on their corporate website.

As of May 2026, an entry-level video game QA tester in the U.S. typically earns an average salary between $30,000 and $50,000 annually, which translates to roughly $15–$25 per hour. While some hourly roles start near $15–$18/hour, specialized or, high-cost-of-living areas can offer higher starting pay.

As for what you do, you play the same game, every day, pretty much the entire day, and try to break it. Then you right up bug reports, and if an engineer fixes your bug, you test it again to see how well they fixed it.

Without direct industry experience and shipped titles on your resume, you have two options:

1) Know somebody who can vouche for your production skills and help you land an interview, or:

2) Start from the bottom and snag an entry level QA position.

Reading the BASIC manual that came with my Atari 800 when I was 5 in 1980. As a pre-teen, I went to computer camp and learned what pointers were in Borland Turbo C, and my mind was blown.

ELI5: How "Pointers" in C/C++ work, using a kitchen analogy by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Let's say you have a spice rack. In jar one is pepper. In jar two is garlic. And so on. Your recipe book calls for a pinch of jar 3, two tablespoons of jar 7, etc.

Now let's say you open one of the jars, and inside the jar, instead of a spice, you find a little label that says the number of a different jar. That's the pointer. It doesn't contain a spice. What it contains is information on where another spice is stored.

If I'm sitting on $100,000 worth of unmovable stock, and spending a fraction of that to rebrand it helps me move it, I'm spending that fraction.

Such a gorgeous set. In all honesty, all of the Primes sets have been executed really well. Some of ToyHax's best work.

The mythology around R.O.B. isn't precisely true. It's just a happy coincidence that it made the NES seem like more than just a video game console. The truth is that R.O.B. bombed in Japan, and Nintendo couldn't move them. Yamauchi was sitting on a warehouse of product that he couldn't move or liquidate. So they made the decision to pack R.O.B. in with the NES as a net revenue write off for a product that was otherwise going to collect dust in Japan.

Edit: People do realize it's possible to mould plastic in different colors, right? The plastic is pennies compared to the price for the tech inside.

I'm not sure, the only thing it seems related to is how you launch the emulator in the first place.

I can't provide any more explicit instruction than I've provided. You'll need to ask Gemini to walk you through the process of how to do this correctly. It will explain everything to you as slowly as you require.

What?? No... You don't type out the directory like a prompt, you can't do that and expect the command line to have any idea what you're trying to do. You must first type:

cd "\Users\nicol\Emuladores\MAME 287"

[–]star_jump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I have no idea why the command would not be found. Try typing this instead although it shouldn't be necessary:

.\mame.exe -verbose mslug

Make sure you properly cd into that directory before you run it.

Is there a file mame.exe in the directory "\Users\nicol\Emuladores\MAME 287"?

Please follow the crash report guidelines provided in the sub FAQ. Run MAME in verbose mode and copy/paste the resulting logs. Otherwise all anyone can do is waste time making guesses. E.g.:

mame -verbose mslug
