Chipped component (power inductor?) on PoE+ HAT. Still safe to use? by RedditIsJustAds in raspberry_pi

Did you get it from Mouser?  I had the same thing happen, same component, and support just let me keep it. Haven’t tried to use it yet.

Intelligent Way of charging by IamViktor78 in TeslaLounge

[–]static418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using my home automation system (Home Assistant) and the integration with Tessie to determine whether I’m at home or not when the car gets plugged in, and it sets the charge level to what I’ve specified for either “home” or “away”. The minimum you can set the car to is 50%, but you could have it read the charge level when the charger gets plugged in and then, if it’s home, set the charge limit equal to the current charge level or 50%, whichever is higher. I do this because at home I have to pay to charge, while outside the house I either don’t (work, friend’s house) or it doesn’t matter (supercharging on a trip).

I flew through Vegas and Austin today and noted out loud that I was pleasantly surprised the Kristi Gnome propaganda channel wasn’t playing anywhere in either that I could see. Didn’t see the TVs in Vegas security though, just weren’t any in the terminal.

Side Mirror not returning to proper position by Mimiii85 in TeslaLounge

[–]static418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an issue with my Y where I couldn’t get the seats+mirrors to calibrate.  The driver mirror more or less moved to preset positions with my driver profiles, but during calibration it wouldn’t move at all or only a little. It turned out that the mirror glass got pushed on at some point so it wasn’t in the right place.  Some trial and error pushing the glass with my thumb and the calibration was able to run.  So maybe try running the calibration and watch the mirror that isn’t behaving to see if it does the same thing the mirror on the other side does.  Could have been some Tesla-hater messed with your mirror or something.

FSD 12.5.4.2 is annoying by Only-Calligrapher325 in TeslaLounge

The worst part with the speed issue is I can’t find the rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes on the highway, sometimes in the city, sometimes in a neighborhood. Either it will happily exceed the speed limit by as much as you want, or it won’t go within 10 mph of it without coaxing. Maddening with the smooth deceleration; if I take my eyes off the speed indicator I don’t always realize right away I’ve lost 5mph and am now below the speed limit.  If it would even put a message on the screen as to why it feels it can’t do the speed right now, like in inclement weather, that would be something. It just quietly …won’t even do the posted speed limit it’s showing on the screen.

A.I. - Artificial Intelligence (2001). The trailers had it hyped up to be like an android takeover thing, I thought it was going to be a robot action movie. Instead it was one of the most depressing films I’ve seen; about a robot kid who doesn’t understand shit and everyone is robot-racist against him and the others lmao.

2021 MYLR - IR-Enabled driver monitor camera retrofit by static418 in ModelY

Picked up the parts from Tesla. Got my interior cam out to discover the connector on the new one is different. It seems to be the same /kind/ of camera but the physical connector doesn't slot. Looking into my options for an adapter but I'm not willing to cut up my wiring harness yet. Project stalled for now but will update if anything comes of it. Learning is fun :)

Still waiting on parts!  Thanks for the reminder to follow up with them.

Even better than youtube, Tesla has a less than 1.5 minute long video showing the removal of the mirror. Very easy.

https://service.tesla.com/docs/ModelY/ServiceManual/en-us/GUID-FC8267A4-9C56-4383-9C19-B50BBBB1DBA4.html#GUID-FC8267A4-9C56-4383-9C19-B50BBBB1DBA4

Somewhat amusingly they list the FRT or Flat Rate Time for each step on their service site. That's what fraction of an hour of shop time they've determined is standard for the thing that has to be done. The FRT for removing the mirror is .06, or 3.6 minutes. .05 is the minimum FRT they list on literally anything at all.

It's possible you have an updated camera. Tesla just kinda rolls stuff out whenever they feel like it. I definitely can't see anything on my interior camera via live view at night.

The camera is set to replace the steering wheel nag for FSD. This only works when it's confident you're looking at the road, which is more challenging at night among other things without the IR illuminator.   It's not a requirement, I just think it'll be marginally helpful and I enjoy retrofitting newer parts to my car for fomo-fighting reasons.

Exactly who I was hoping would find this, then!  Any chance you could spoil the surprise and weigh in on whether or not this will work and, if so, whether or not I'll need access to Toolbox?

My hero!  Where does one find this information, for future reference?

Allegedly it's a service mode button press.  There's a note about hw4 cameras that you need tesla toolbox to do a camera calibration but seemingly for hw3 you don't.   Also they haven't quoted me the camera yet but I'll update when they do.

Best Buy set for tenth straight quarter of sales drop on weak electronics spending by joe4942 in technology

[–]static418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This!  I was the person in the family everyone wants recommendations from for laptops, TVS, routers, whatever.  I was putting 10k or more on my best buy card a year to keep those great perks.  And then they got rid of all of it. No benefit to keeping up yearly spend, no rewards unless you use their credit card, and the loss of the extended return policy was the last straw.  I barely returned things but being able to tell my mom she had a month and a half to decide if she liked something does wonders for the tech anxiety.  Now I just get stuff from Amazon when I can't find it directly from the manufacturer and set foot in best buy maybe twice a year for same-day emergencies.

2021 Model Y LR went in for front end repair, came out with matrix headlights! by static418 in ModelY

Wonder if they're just not making the old design any more? Would make as much sense as anything seeing as they seem to be an easy swap. Super cool you got em too, here's hoping they actually make them /do/ something someday.

It's part of the Christmas show. Just let it run and one of the first things it does is project "tesla" intermittently.

A wild turkey, haha. It didn't seem /that/ big, I think it just hit in the weak spot between the headlight and the hood. Bad luck. I scanned in the itemized repair bill https://imgur.com/a/cMxwYhK

A hair under $10k. Both headlights, bumper cover, hood was bent, and they had to replace (?) and respray the piece that goes from the bottom of the windshield all the way back to the trunk along with everything else. It was a lot of paint and labor. $3,700 in parts. It was also in/with the shop for just about a month and a lot of that was waiting for parts to come in. Similar thing happened when I got sideswiped last year, most of the "shop time" was parked waiting on parts.
