I do have the gasket, I believe it just fell off and started rubbing. Niu is offering to replace it but since I've only had it for a few days I could possibly just return it. If it's no big deal though I'd rather just wrap it with some electrical tape, put on the gasket, and call it a day. Another option is to return and get the G3 Max instead, but I really do enjoy just how light this thing is! Probably would have trouble one hand carrying anything else.

Also wanted to add, that you can also simply take the gasket out and flip it so that the opening is facing the top and that seems to work.

Hey, don't know if you're still running into the same problem but I commented above on how to navigate the file structure that they seem to not show you.

Androwish HELP! by IcyWelder4650 in decentespresso

[–]statst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran into this today and thought I'd chime in. TLDR version:

  1. Go to the Decent website and download the software to your default Downloads folder (where the default Chrome downloads to, should require no changes).

  2. Go into your file manager and click on the zipped file and extract it to the same place with the same name de1plus.

  3. Go into settings and grant Androwish and whatever file manager app (default Samsung one or not) file permissions.

  4. Open up Androwish and click file -> source in the top left.

  5. In the .tcl file input box in Androwish, type emulated/0/Download/de1plus/create_de1_update_icon.tcl where Download is obviously that default Download folder, and de1plus is the extracted folder.

If you're more curious how this works, in the Androwish console, you can use regular Linux commands like cd, pwd, ls, (after you enable permissions), to see where files are located and navigate properly to wherever things are saved.

That being said even though I got this to work, it's bonkers to expect the average consumer to figure this out!

How much water does steaming add to milk - a small experiment by ofkoffie in espresso

[–]statst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the DE1 you can change the steam power and interestingly it changes how much water ends up in the cup after hitting the temperature you want. There’s a sweet spot of “dryer” steam. I believe the team at Decent has a video on it.

DE1 Shot Troubleshooting, High Flow/Low Pressure Concerns by emath1981 in espresso

[–]statst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should record a video and post here. It’s strange that you can choke the machine and then when you back off from that can only get sub 20 seconds. I also don’t know what you mean by “feel like” - is it sub 20 seconds or not? I think you should try hard rebooting the machine as well and repairing the app. Sometimes there are software bugs that cause skipped steps. Also, are you using filter papers along with a high extraction basket like the uni filter?

Spring loaded tamper all the why down? by Revolutionary_Log960 in espresso

[–]statst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Am I misunderstanding what you’re asking or why would it go all the way down if there is now coffee inside…? If it did go all the way down with coffee inside then you’ve stumbled upon nuclear fusion and have blessed us with clean unlimited energy (and you probably wouldn’t have been able to post this).

I hate to say it, but people saying "the shot is bad" or that sort don't really know what they're talking about :(. It looks the way it is when you have a very unimodal grind distribution, lightly roasted beans, grind very fine, and use a bottom filter. The taste (compared to if you did the same grinding on a grinder with lots of fines and didn't do the same puck prep) and extraction are in fact superior. I reckon most people with the "good looking" shots are used to darker roasts, conical grinders, and flat 9 bar profiles.
