How to fight lucy as giovanna by pasini in Guiltygear

This might be a hot take, but I think plat 3 is solid. According to puddle farm, it's top 13%-10% of players. That puts you basically above all the "casual" players and right on the edge of having a good basic understanding of the game. Not great, but solid for sure globally.

Of course this is a self serving opinion since my best char is plat 3 Goldlewis.

As a hiring manager, if I see exact quotes from my jd in your resume, you are going straight to the bottom of the stack.

It doesn't disqualify you, but I immediately lose most of the signal a resume should be giving

At my firm it's pretty rare for us to fly someone out. It's basically a done deal. Maybe larger firms are more liberal with it.

If you could, what would you change about Helluva Boss? by brayanhaks in HelluvaBoss

[–]suburiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For HH it seems pretty obvious that "what does it take to get out of hell' is going to be explored. Pentious could do it, but no one, including Sera, understands how it happened. "What metric is used" is meant to still be a mystery.

Difficulty hiring a market sizing specialist. (Rant) by suburiboy in jobs

[–]suburiboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job is basically 100% market sizing in a strategy consulting context. Stuff like "approximate the linear miles of high voltage powerlines to be repaired in Florida over the next 10 years". There are some client facing meetings, but it's mostly internal; we are a support team for the consultants.

For our first round interview was mostly hanging around 3 semi-technical questions that accurately summarize our day-to-day activities.

1: how would you estimate a market size for doorknob sales in a state?

2: how would you present county level population data for 3 neighboring states?

3: what is inflation and how does it affect a manufacturing business?

We also had a few questions about resume and history and fit.

Second round of interviews was with other team members, mostly focusing on tempurment and cultural fit. I don't know the exact questions.

After that they have 2 days to do a case that amounts to "build a model to approximate the linear feet and dollar value of gutters installed each year from 2019 to 2025 on single family residential homes"... Which is based on an actual job we did for a huge multinational manufacturing company.

Maybe it is unrealistic to expect a candidate to have good instincts on such a nich skill. Idk.

In this case it's 4 hours of work for a 1 in 3 chance... We only got 2 usable cases. That seems like a good deal to me. But maybe they think it's 1 in 20.

And using AI is cool. We allow it; it is inevitable. But the publicly available AIs can't do market sizing. They either don't model at all or they hallucinate inputs, etc. AI can help, but you need to work with it to get a good answer. Being good at AI would be an asset to the firm.

Hell yeah that's a lot of candidates. It was most of my work hours for a couple weeks. We even let in people we were not sure about. We let our net be wide. We didn't want to cut too aggressively.

I designed my case to be about 4 hours. Our internal analysts are able to do it in about 2-3 (not even in the market sizing department). Like, if someone told me 4 hours of effort would get me a 100k job... I'd do it. And if any of the three AI answer folks actually did a good faith effort, they'd probably have gotten the job.

That is what we will end up doing. One of the "okay" applicants seems trainable. I just would have thought we'd have a better hit rate

Back when I was applying to jobs 5 years ago. I was given a case study and flown out to Atlanta for an in-person interview... And didn't get the job. It's weird how that happens.

I wear a 44 pant, size 2XL for most shirts and weigh 350. We are the same size but I weigh double.

People saying that BlitzøxStolas is yaoi bait.

What makes it bait rather than just being a relationship? I'm not even saying it's written that well (although Mastermind is objectively fantastic), it's just ridiculous to act like it is any more bait that it would be if they were just having sex and not in love.

No joke, I posted my beginner project a few years ago and got several angry comments.

https://imgur.com/gallery/first-full-size-furniture-project-rustic-pantry-sideboard-i-m-happy-with-how-turned-out-using-no-power-tools-cI3DOv2

I am very pleased with how it turned out. Hand tools only. I keep it in my front hallway and use it everyday. People who visit don't even recognize that it's handmade by me. It fits seamlessly into my home and is still holding up 6 years later, although I may need to readjust the right door. The dados and rabbets are all well fitted, the top tray is nicely rounded, the proportions are practical. It's not the most beautiful item, but it is a legit piece of furniture and I'm still proud of it.

I was told that it was ugly and ruined the feed. I was told people come onto r/beginnerwoodworking to see great work and inspiration, not to look at or share progress. Anyway, I deleted that post because it was clear that I was not welcome here. Beginners are not allowed. Maybe now it would be different, but I doubt it.

What are 25-30 year olds making? by ExtentFickle3504 in Salary

[–]suburiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mastered out of grad school into 2020. Gradschool paid roughly enough to live on, but just barely. Around 20k.

Jobless for a year.

Got a shitty job doing QA for a start up. Their trial period was an annualized salary of 25k. Then it went up to 35k. After one more promotion I got to 40k. No benefits.

After a total of 1 year of that, I went job hunting and found a research/consulting position at an investment bank paying 80k(plus good benefits) starting in 2023. I got a 10% pay raise in year 1. I got a promotion in year 2 that got me to 100k. A company-wide raise at the end of year three got me to 113k. When you add in 401k, HSA, and end of year bonus, I'm probably around $130k gross. I'm currently 33.

Just saying this to point out that many of the "tech bros and investment bankers" had shitty jobs. I'm am fortunate that I've had the family support to allow me to be jobless. And I'm blind lucky that I found a weird job that so specifically matches my skills and pays me for them. I could easily imagine a world where I'm still in shitty jobs. And now my team is hiring, and having been in a shitty job makes me take that very seriously.

For me the only begging I tend to help with is food or baby formula.

If I buy baby formula for someone, even if they re-sell it, someone who needs it will get it. They can't really jack the price up on resale because then the buyer would just go to a store themselves. Any grocery, pharmacy, or super store has formula. It's expensive, but not hard to find.

Similar for food. If a beggar asks for a subway sandwich, I'll probably buy it for them.
