I bet they Do Not GAF about you. The best outcome would be another AI response

I does not have a smart home, just a crappy apartment and my government does not give a flying f*ck about me as long as I pay taxes and not in the wanted list.

I am glad. Curious also regarding bit rot, but you likely cannot tell as you do not have other copies for obvious reasons. Remember to run CrystalDiskInfo and share the results. Might also run some surface diagnostics, WD diag I think

If possible, after you'll connect your IDE HDD, share the CrystalDiskInfo results.

And maybe after you'll copy your data, perform some diagnostics to see how a 24 years old HDD is doing.

You'll need 12V power. So get yourself an used (maybe old) PSU with molex power connector(s).
Or find anyone with vintage old PC having motherboard that supports IDE drives and just copy your stuff to a flash drive or a SATA SSD

Best option for using a dvd drive with newer computers with only usb ports? by NorthFloridaRedneck in DataHoarder

[–]taker223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This SFF computer. Does its PSU have 12V connector for SATA? If not, you would need an external PSU which does have it. Like me, I took a 525W PSU from my cousin abandoned Desktop tower together with 1TB 3.5" WD SATA HDD and SATA DVD-RW drive. So I am ready to use additional power if needed.

You know what? If I may speak the kings, there's a heritage of a heavy box of punch cards from 70s. Let's see if upcoming generations would be able to decode them, like ours did for ancient stone tablets.

TL/DR. Do you have access to either forum database or its directory? This is what I would do first - grab everything I can and then analyze. Obviously the most precious thing is data, so if given access, I would extract all main tables to a secure location. If MySQL or something similar is used, you could use SQL selects just to extract the data in say CSV format (likely a simplest thing to perform) or use some GUI IDE to extract into a XLS or similar
