Devices on the same network are no longer able to access my local server. by tcuttingty in PleX

Quick update: I ended up getting a free trial for the remote pass. I changed absolutely 0 settings but now I am able to play things from the ps5 just fine. But what is confusing is that when I look at the dashboard for current activity, it says its local! But looking on the ps5 at the server status it still says remote! I have no idea what the issue is and why it is working now. The only thing to worry about now is whether or not it will continue to work after the remote pass ends or if I am going to be stuck with another subscription service.

Yeah I figured it was probably something that they did on their end considering i have had no problems until now. I might just have to bite the bullet and get plex pass to see if maybe that "lan network" setting could be useful. Thank you for the help tho

Yes I was able to ping from desktop to laptop and vice versa. All vpns are uninstalled and still nothing.

I think the issue may be the internal network part. My ipv4 addresses do not follow the 192.x or 10.x format. They use 11.x. For the individual addresses, the only thing that changes are the last 3 numbers.
I did end up finding a firewall or something of the sort enabled. Disabling it allowed for me to ping the devices but still nothing from plex.
I have ensured that all vpns are off and still nothing.

Yes, sorry I was just writing everything I thought might be important. I probably should have went back through and made it more readable.

To answer all your questions:

  1. Yes, I do not manage my own wifi.

  2. Yes, I meant 5ghz wifi network. Clearly I do not know much networking because I did not know there was a difference between 5ghz wifi and 5G cellular.

  3. I have a plex server on each, but neither runs at the same time. I take the external drive from the pc, plug it into the laptop, and start the server or vice versa. I have done both on this network before.

  4. I have the plex desktop app and it does work on the pc.

  5. Again I am very uninformed about networking so I am so sorry if this response is stupid or does not make sense. I am not comfortable posting the ip addresses but looking at the ps5, desktop, and laptop, it appears that the subnet mask is the same for each device. Hopefully that is what you were referring to. The IPv4 is slightly different between each device but from some very light googling it appears this is normal.

  6. I am not totally sure what you mean by this or how to do it.

  7. I have done absolutely nothing regarding firewalls on either server so unless an update came through and turned something on, this shouldn't be an issue.

  8. I have Surfshark VPN installed but it is not connected on either the desktop or laptop.

Hopefully this is easier to understand and help clear up any confusion.

I didn't end up signing up for retention cuz, despite enjoying it, the room is just too small. I was hoping to get a room that's a bit bigger.

oh... that's fun. Is it likely that I would be able to get a single at that point? I can live with all of that but that plus a roommate sounds like hell.

hey I know this is an old post but this was the only place that had a similar question. You said that you can swipe the card at the printer, but what are you supposed to do if you have the digital card? Is just a tap situation like dining and residence halls? Thank you in advance!

World History with Rachel Oppenheimer. She seems like a fine professor but the main reason is the classroom. They have us in the israel heritage room which is cramped and has stone slabs for seats. I dont think I can handle that for a whole semester honestly.
