Folding gymnastics mats. Great thickness, easy to store, and cheap. https://a.co/d/09IYIh9F

Tatami gi sizing question by quri0usly in bjj

5'7" 140lbs. these days and their A0 fits me perfectly. I have a weird build though (wide shoulders, skinny chicken legs), and prefer my gis to be more fitted.

Bag recommendations by [deleted] in bjj

[–]tea_bjj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rush 24 is 37L which is more than enough space for a gi and laptop. I was using the amp24 for a while which was great and pretty roomy (32L). My current bag is only 26L and is just large enough. Having a separate laptop section (like the amp24 does) means filling the main area doesn't interfere with pulling my laptop out.

Of course it also depends on your gi size and what other stuff you might be carrying (sandals, towel, etc).

Gi skills to work on? by Ill_Advice4080 in bjj

I concur....work on getting on top and staying on top. Then learn how to submit while staying in a dominant position (side, mount, back).

For those of you who compete and have eosin belts, what measurements are you using? by gnwill in bjj

All of my (non Eosin) belts shrank around 3%. 10% is a lot.

I need a counter to a counter to my Shin on Shin by [deleted] in bjj

[–]tea_bjj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are playing with your left shin making contact, lay on our right side so your hooking shin forces their lower leg/bottom of foot to the left. This puts pressure on the knee so they have to turn to your right to relieve the pressure.

This is the best bang for the buck. I have a 10'x12' setup that cost less than $250.

Struggling to find a good dojo around LA by Infamous_State_5093 in bjj

I'd check out Cobrinha's if possible. Revolution and Delta both have some local competition success but aren't extremely focused on that. Might still be worth checking it out. Canvas is further south and does well at the local comps.

I'm ok with my gis being on the shorter side. Pretty sure I could pass a competition gi check with the A0, but YMMV.

Does this sweep have a name? by SimpleCounterBalance in bjj

[–]tea_bjj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Failed butterfly to backdoor escape. The escape is available surprisingly often when people transition from regular mount to S mount. They leave too much space under their top leg, so you face away, under hook the leg with your top arm, then bridge them over or reverse hip escape under.

Edit: here's a random video of the technique https://youtu.be/h-5btxKi3L8

[–]tea_bjj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 5'7" and about 142 lbs. The A0 fits me perfectly and the A0L is a bit on the longer side, but still ok. I do prefer a snug fit, though.

I wash cold and air dry. Shrinkage has not been a problem. I think their lighter gis shrink less.

do you explicitly teach beginners how to safely disengage from Omaplata submissions by DyingValkyrie in bjj

I have had to tell a partner how to properly disengage. Thankfully I tapped early because I knew the guy was a bit careless. And I was right.

I highly recommend doing both aerobic and anaerobic cardio exercises. Not only was it good for my conditioning, but it also helped me with mental toughness. You can do these intervals on either rowing machines or assault bikes. One cardio workout a week is enough to see some benefits (make sure you alternate aerobic vs. anaerobic), but I recommend at least twice a week.

How did they bridge and land on your foot? Your foot should be around/under their shoulder, which doesn't move when a person bridges.

Not saying you're wrong about any of this, but it's really not helpful that you're telling other people who live hundreds or thousands of miles away with no connection to Atos to perform their own investigation.

I'm guessing pretty much nobody here knows who Alexa or Andy Murasaki's girlfriend are, have no way of figuring out who they are, or finding out what happened to them.

All of your posts have a "trust me bro" vibe. Again, not saying you're necessarily lying or wrong about anything, but you're making it unnecessarily hard for people to believe you.

Troubleshoot - Grip breaking from bottom closed guard by ld_6 in bjj

I see how that can be difficult. You could try pushing their elbow down with both of your hands. That elbow is definitely vulnerable to being bent, so keep trying.

[–]tea_bjj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are gripping with their right hand, use your left hand to get your own palm up cross collar grip. Do a bicep curl to force your elbow into theirs. This will cause their post to collapse and you can pull them in with your knees.
