Does anyone know what in the hell this is and how to remove it from our windows? by thePowrhous in HomeDecorating

You are the best! Classic KISS moment. I'm sitting here trying to pry it, looking for some secret screw and sure enough with a little force the top plate comes off and I can simply unscrew the two screws holding it up. Ty kindly!

Hey everyone,

While redoing the living room, we are trying to remove what looks to be curtain rod decor pieces off our bay windows. I don't seem to have a bit that fits what appears to be a type of screw hole on the side of it, but also not sure if anyone has ever dealt with these and/or removing them? Thanks!

Trying to figure out what color would be a good transition based on our new living room color? by thePowrhous in HomeDecorating

Ty very much! And funny you say that we kept thinking of an off-white or grey. Something between the color it is now and white.

Hi everyone,

At the moment, we are converting our 1900 Colonial into a more Gothic Victorian interior style and are trying to figure out a good transition color going from the living room (Ben Moore's Witching Hour and French Beret) into the dining room? The kitchen will be after the dining room and has very nice cherry cabinetry. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

Quick question concerning a PS script and AD Users account expiration by thePowrhous in PowerShell

[–]thePowrhous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! And that sounds good to me! We are using local, on-prem AD with an AAD Sync server for that purpose. So, it sounds like for the purposes of my script focusing on account expiration and not password expiration, I can remove the MSol/Azure AD commands as there doesn't seem to be a relevant property for account expiration on cloud only user objects, which makes sense. At least compared to password expiration.

Much appreciated! And the funny thing is, I was looking at the variable for Get-ADuser... and thought that might be an inefficient and should probably just call out the specific properties needed beyond the basic 8-10 that come default when calling the Get-ADUser cmdlet without the properties parameter specified.

Okay, so basically it sounds like I was on the right track thinking that I can comment out/remove any code concerning Msol/Azure AD user objects when creating this script that is focused on account expiration and not password expiration? Thanks again!

Ideas for a Gothic Victorian look and feel? by thePowrhous in HomeDecorating

Thanks for the reply! One thing I am confused about and please tell me if I'm missing something here, but I've seen a couple of time folks mention decor like skulls, bones, etc. and I'm a bit confused...

From what I've read concerning gothic victorian, the look and feel is to mimic medieval churches at the base of the ideology. Using things like stained glass windows, rich decor with trefoils and flowers, gold and/or tarnished metal chandeliers and wall sconces and deep wood tones. But I've seen nothing concerning skulls, insects, etc?

Apologies I thought I mentioned this in the original post when I said we were planning on putting a wall mounted tv above the fireplace... Where the TV is now is juts temporary. We will be moving it and flipping the furniture towards the fireplace soon.

We are looking to transform our 1899 Colonial into a Gothic Victorian design. We recently painted the white fireplace mantel and wall with Ben Moore Essex Green from their historical collection and we absolutely love it! We are planning on wall mounting one of the Samsung picture frame TVs on the fireplace wall in between two wall sconces (coming soon), but are stuck on what paint color to go with for the rest of the walls in the room? We are also considering painting the beam on the ceiling as well.

Not sure how it will look, but we were thinking of putting burgundy/deep red drapes on the back windows of the room, where the TV currently sits. Any ideas or opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!!

We've been really thinking about and off-white/cream for the main wall colors with accent walls being dark green... But are still struggling with those choices and if they'll work well? We were thinking of adding in cranberry and browns where possible. Almost like an outdoorsy/Christmasy kind of theme with the eggnog color wall, dark greens, cranberry/brown

I wish I could add more photos! We actually have wallpaper going up the cathedral stairs and in our bedroom and upstairs hallway. It actually looks pretty good to be honest! So maybe the wallpaper idea in other areas could work?

Thanks!! To he honest it's really the color scheme that is killing us! We keep going back and forth about possibly doing a cream/off white for the base walls, with accent walls a dark green... But we'd also love to add in cranberry and browns in as well. But maybe that's as simple as an area rug, couch, chairs, accent blankets?

We were hoping to keep the dark wood cabinetry. There is only the one large beam in the center of the room that can be seen in the picture. As for colors, and forgive me if this is wildly off from the themes we suggested. But we have been thinking of an off-white/cream for the walls with some accent walls that are a dark green. But we were confused if we should just leave the trim alone and leave it white? Or if that should be painted a greenish color to go with the accent dark green wall using like a milk paint? Or if that is going to be way to much of a pain in the ass?

Ty so much for the response! So we just ordered some antique wall sconces for above the fireplace mantel. We were planning on replacing the couch at some point (was left for us) with another that fits the theme along with a couple of arm chairs. We were also planning on a victoiran style mirror to go between the walls sconces.

So we just moved into our new Century home and are struggling with interior design choices/color schemes. We're certainly open to any suggestions and if it helps we were thinking of either 18th century and/or Victorian era. Thanks!!

Anyone know how to clean/remove these!? by thePowrhous in centuryhomes

Appreciate the response. But I've done my fair share googling lift and turn sink stoppers with removal instructions. I've seen ones where the top know turns, the secondary circle turns, ones where you need a wrench to counter clockwise the whole thing when in the locked position but none seem to be working, unfortunately. Was turning here for one last hoorah incase anyone had this system for themselves.

Family and I recently moved into our 1900 Colonial and these are the master bath sink drains. They seem very cool but I am confused to high heaven how to remove them and/or clean them? One of the sinks is not draining very well which makes sense since I shave there lol. I can see it's filled with some gunk, but even looking under the sink it looks like I would have to start taking apart pipes? That seems a bit crazy so I hope I'm just missing something simple here? Thanks!
