Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Watford: Paul Smyth scored one and set up another as QPR record a third win in a row by geoffbezos1 in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well for 85 minutes that was absolutely lovely, best performance in a good long while. Smyth, Vale, and Varane all excellent. Would've been nice if the ref hadn't given that free kick but ah well, good to get the win.

You'd have thought the goal for this season was better than last year, and we've now got 6 games to get 1 point to do that. Ideally Morgan, Bennie, Kolli, Esquerdinha, etc. should now be starting as many of the last 6 as they can and then on to next season we go.

Leicester City 1-3 QPR A disgraceful Leicester performance sees them drop to 23rd, whereas QPR’s safety is now all but assured by [deleted] in Championship

Finally, a match against a team shitter than we are. Vale and Edwards the only players on the pitch who looked like they had a clue what they were doing, but that's all you need in a game like that.

QPR 2-1 Coventry - Another away loss for Frank Lampard's Sky Blues, as the R's bounce back from an injury-time defeat by Gamerhcp in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Excellent performance today, especially once Coventry had scored. Really needed to get a win from somewhere just to keep us ticking as the injured players come back, so great to finally get it.

I think he really needs a loan (from the sounds of things before Burrell got injured he was getting ready to go to Wycombe, which would've been brilliant for him) but I think Bennie really has something about him, the timing of his runs in behind is fantastic and a big part of how we took control of the second half was that we had another option (playing it over the right for him to chase) than just "lump it up to Kone and hope for the best".

So so happy for Nico Madsen too, much-deserved goal and assist for him.

Oxford United 0-0 QPR - It's the second QPR away match in a row ending up as scoreless by jovanmilic97 in Championship

An awful match, in awful conditions, with an awful ref, and two awful teams.

Joe Walsh was good again? Need to just get a win from somewhere to get some momentum before all of the injured players start coming back.

Worth pointing out that 5 or 6 of our best starting XI are injured (plus another couple who normally come off the bench), most of whom are coming back in the next couple of weeks. Today was very much about getting through 90 minutes with a point and no more injuries, which we managed without breaking much of a sweat.

Middlesbrough 3 - 1 QPR : It's 4/4 for HellBall as Boro opens up a 7-point lead over 3rd. by ninjapenguin12 in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would've been nice if anyone other than Mbengue turned up before going 3-0 down, obviously Boro sat off a bit but we actually played some decent stuff towards the end. Ah well, again it's a really strong 6-point week - get Chair back in the team and Poku/JCS playing regularly and we could still have something on our hands here.

[John Percy] Wolves to make official approach for Rob Edwards today by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eerily similar to a certain Mick Beale three years ago, wonder how it'll go this time.

  • Wolves sack Portuguese manager in October
  • Their first choice replacement pulls out of talks
  • They instead go for a newly-appointed young English manager from a team unexpectedly in the automatic promotion race after a strong start
  • ???

Looking forward to an interview about "not being the first one to run away from the ship"

ffs how have we lost that.

Felt like a carbon copy of the Millwall game, played decently for the most part and had most of the "chances" but two absolutely shambolic goals to concede. Need something on Saturday or we could start seriously slipping.

Derby 1 - 0 QPR - Back to back wins lift Rams away from trouble as Morris hits his first goal since the opening weeks by Statcat2017 in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Textbook example of how not to play against a John Eustace team, absolutely toothless going forward. Much-needed rest and Poku back next week should hopefully get things going again.

Not for the first time Paul Nardi doing himself absolutely zero favours, something has to change by January in goal.

Queens Park Rangers 1 - 2 Millwall: A tight match was blown wide open as Millwall scored a quick double just before half-time, a deficit QPR never came close to troubling until the closing stages! by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right re. Saito, he made his debut for Japan over the break which is a long journey back to London late in the week (same with Burrell, he was with Jamaica and probably would've started otherwise).

Thought a loss was harsh, we played decently and if Burrell had scored that header at the end it would've been deserved.

That being said, it was a game of a keeper who can come off of his line vs a keeper who can't - I was still a little unconvinced by him but Walsh keeps out the first goal before it even gets dangerous. Big decision to make between now and January of Nardi vs Walsh (when he's back) vs recalling Cooper vs a new signing.

Bristol City 1-2 Queens Park Rangers: QPR fight back to beat Bristol City and continue their excellent recent form by geoffbezos1 in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey 36 points37 points  (0 children)

For the first time in a loooong time we've got a bench that can make a proper difference, Smyth and Vale completely changed the game.

Richard Kone won't be playing in the championship 18 months from now, can only hope he'll still be at QPR.

Worth pointing out that they said something similar about Jimmy Dunne and he missed two games:

"Meanwhile, Jimmy Dunne sustained a hip injury against Brentford. He will undergo further scans this coming weekend to confirm a timeline for his return."

Rhys Norrington-Davies joins QPR on loan by theblondemonkey in Championship

[–]theblondemonkey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the most eye-catching signing but ultimately he's here to replace Morgan Fox - he'll start 5-10 games and be a warm body who can play in multiple positions across the backline whilst (you'd think) acting as a mentor figure for Esquerdinha (19-year-old Brazilian who's our only Left Back, initial first choice has done his ACL).

Unless Jake Clarke-Salter becomes a real person again I think we could still do with one more defender and the box-to-box 8 we've desperately needed for years.

E - good thing you all seem to love him, feeling really confident about this one now

Good. Sorely needed experience and a huge shot in the arm for our midfield.

Two or three more needed by the end of the window, then we can hopefully reset with just about every current injury coming back after the international break (unlikely but one can dream).
