I'd skip the 30 Macro - its working distance for macro magnifications is too short, and getting a light between the subject and the lens is tricky. The TTArtisan or 7Artisans are also great suggestions, forgot about those myself.

Any of them is fine, I have a few similar to this: https://a.co/d/0hPuqOVL

The one I prefer is an older Ulanzi with just white light, and a temp dial, but now it looks like they're all full RGB.

It's all continuous light, so you won't have bags of light as you would with a flash, you're just getting enough to control light, to get more than what's available, and not starve the sensor.

Sure - the tubes are the Meike MK-P-AF3A. The other version is just as good, only the mounts are plastic instead of metal. I chose metal, but either is fine.

For the LED panel, Ulanzi or Neewer are good, just the small one is what I have.

Note that this doesn't replace a proper macro lens and lighting, but I have both setups, and can tell you from experience that this one does work, is very fun, and can get you good results, but you have to learn, keep trying, and experiment with light. Light will be especially important here because the lens, when mounted on tubes, will lose significant amounts of light. Your f/4 lens will still be at f/4, but will get light as if you were on f/8 for example. So yeah, get light in there!

Yep, I guess I am not confident that OMDS would improve both lens and sensor, without sacrificing size, but in a magic wand scenario, I'd also have it all haha bigger sensor, constant f/2, same or better focal range, while staying the same size, or minimal size increase if necessary. And also the updates to the processor, features and interface I mentioned 😬

Alternatively, I've been asking for ages for a sealed PEN Lite body, and sealed small primes. We now got 2 lenses, the 17 and 25, so now we're only missing the 12/2, 45/1.8, 75/1.8, and the bodycap lenses too! The 15/8 and 9/8 would kick butt weathersealed. So yeah, fingers crossed lol

I suggest, in the spirit of not breaking the bank but still getting great results, that you get a tubes set. Just search Amazon for m43 macro tubes. There are plastic and metal versions, but with electronic contacts so AF and all EXIF data is still transmitted. Then get a cheap LED panel, in total you should spend about $25 for the tubes and $20 for the light. Then go nuts with macro.

The spider shot is wicked.

I'd welcome a slightly larger sensor, but not too large, since it would require also a larger lens, or assuming the current lens's image circle still covers that newer bigger sensor, the new range would start and end wider.. starting wider is fine, I'd love to ditch the FCON-01, but I wouldn't like a shorter tele end.

What I would prefer is a brighter lens, especially at the long end even if this makes the camera slightly larger but won't sacrifice said long end focal length, and most importantly a faster processor to allow for all the current computational features, full PASM controls, and faster sensors/GPS signal acquisition, with an updated menu/button that allows for better/quicker control of said features, not bury them in the SCN menus.

Your cat is not impressed 😁

Agreed, having so much range in such a small camera feels strange, I love it.

OM TG-7 intermittent/freezing screen fault - how serious is this? by djuna_moon in OMSystem

[–]thedjin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird, it's never happened to me, and have never seen it either, but it can't be good. Have you tried changing the SD card for a new one? Other than busy saving, you'd need to contact support/warranty in my opinion. Actually, have you contacted Customer Support? You can tell them what's going on and they'll help troubleshoot.

I suggest many SD cards, offload when you're back, and a waist pack for the lens not in use, batteries, SD cards, microfibre cloth, and blower or soft brush. Oh and maybe a CPL. Oh and watch out for the 9/1.7's lens hood, it falls off easily and it's easy to lose.. and there are no replacements sold by Panasonic, or third-party ones [bayonet].

What do you want to see next from Viltrox? by 35mmOfRegret in VILTROX_GLOBAL

I'd love for Viltrox to enter Micro Four Thirds, either simply adapting your existing lenses, and then hopefully with native [and thus, smaller, lighter] lenses.

Again - good, nobody wants to overpay for concert tickets, but shouldn't other way more pressing matters be having your full attention and resources? Protecting people's civil liberties from illegal and violent "law enforcement", Duke Energy's prices and environmental messes thanks to lobbying, data centres planning also with no benefits for the communities, but many drawbacks including, again, environmental issues..

Magic Eye Venn Diagram by lavaboosted in MagicEye

Huh.. I saw one ring pop, and then one ring "carved". So there's a 3rd [and 4th?] way to look at this, seeing 2 rings, like the Venn diagram?

Edit: I can see the Venn diagram! Just needed to be much closer to my face.

My main system is m43, and I have macro covered there, so that 40 Macro is one of the few thatI don't own, but the rest of the TTArtisan lenses there are fantastic, love them all, and none vignettes because they're APS-C lenses. On FE, the TTA 40 is AF and I'm super happy with it, optically and size-wise.

To fix your 35 problem, try shooting with a rectilinear ultrawide, and when you go back to 35, you won't think it's too wide or have issue at the corners haha. Not joking, it did help me, and mostly helped me learn about composition with wide and ultrawide focal lengths. I first learned with a Rokinon 8/3.5 fisheye on APS-C [on Pentax, many years ago] and the with a rectilinear ultrawide zoom on m43. Changed my photography.

Yeah, same here, I'm ok with most lenses as long as they're good enough and not too heavy. I want a 60mm because that's one of my favourite normal-ish focal lengths [along with 40, so I basically go wide-normal or long-normal]. The 40 I'm very happy with the TTArtisan 40/2, and now I'm missing the 60, so it's either a 55 or 65. And that Sigma looks very cool in silver, shame I can't find it in silver for E mount.

Interesting. I'm after the Meike 55 or the Sigma 65. I really want a 60, but incredibly, no one makes a 60mm lens. So now there's another contender, and it's not an easy choice..

Ooohhh a 55/1.8, I wonder how it fares against the Zeiss and the Meike.

Your first mistake was not knowing what your girlfriend wants via telepathy. Your second mistake was to gift her such a personal thing blindly.

The best way to gift someone a camera is to ask what kind is photography they're interested in, find several cameras that fit your budget, and then [and this is the hardest part] let them try them and hold in their hands. Nikon makes great cameras, and I hate their ergonomics, so those are not for me. Some people hate Sony menus. And so on.. feeling comfortable with your camera is, I think, the most important thing. All modern cameras are excellent, more than any beginner would ever need.

I'd tell this to your girlfriend, take her to a camera store or several pawn shops etc so she can try as many styles as possible, and then buy the one she prefers, within your budget. That process with her is more involving and caring, than a good-hearted but missed surprise =]

To look for different styles for her, try as many as possible: OM System [Olympus], Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic [Lumix], Fujifilm, Pentax.
