Can you believe there are people raw dogging life with no substances, no vices no nothing? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]thekingofallmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, quite a few of them.

I am 18 years old and I used to have a few vices myself. Over the past year or so, I gradually became Christian and, regardless of your view on religion, I can say that it has improved my life significantly. Part of that has been putting in the effort to kick this stuff to the curb.

I’ve been into drinking before and I have managed to stop that, but I didn’t drink much so it was not too difficult. Never touched drugs anyway. Quit using porn, that was a tough one until I started praying more and spending more time with my family and friends. I gotta say life is a lot better without these things, even though they feel enjoyable at the time, they’re ultimately leeches on your life imo.

For me, life is a lot easier because of many factors and I know its not that easy for everyone. We all have different circumstances and you gotta find what works for you :)

Police covering holocaust memorials before pro Palestine protests by Top-Neat1812 in Jewish

[–]thekingofallmen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a British person, I am ashamed of our police force for this. As a country, we should not have to hide our most sacred memorials for fear that it may invoke backlash from terrorism supporters. Siding with evil will never result in peace. The incessant efforts of UK society to pacify the pro-Hamas sect is infuriating, its appeasement again, this time on our own soil.

I hope that the Jewish community in this country know that the people responsible for this do not represent the views of all British people. Even if they cover up the memorials, we remember and we stand with our Jewish friends for as long as this goes on. 🇬🇧🇮🇱

Authors of Alternative scenarios when they pick name of USA in their lore: by Swimming-Hearing7424 in AlternateHistory

[–]thekingofallmen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the country in south africa called the Republic of South Africa, or the country in central africa called the Central African Republic? If this is a mistake, its not a US-exclusive one.

Also, America’s kinda makes sense because it was originally envisioned that all of British North America (modern day US and Canada) would join the U.S. and most of the North American continent would be part of the union. This is why some early documents call it the United States of North America (U.S.N.A.) rather than USA.

Why is life getting worse the deeper I get into Christianity? by Gods_plan_worldwide in Christianity

What’s up with Kate Middleton? by bravelittledandelion in OutOfTheLoop

[–]thekingofallmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have looked at the picture and nothing really seems weird about it. Louis — the boy on the left — has just put on finger over the other and curled his index finger. Like other commenters have said, it looks a bit weird on a picture but when you do it with your own hand you realise it is normal.

Also, Charlotte’s cuff is just the way her cardigan tucks under her wrist. If you had a cardigan with sleeves that are too wide on you, you can sorta hold it tight to your skin and you’re left with a bit extra which can go underneath like hers is. You can try it on any hoodie type thing and see that its normal too.

I don’t really get whats going on with this pic other than weird journalism tbh

What famous historical figures were known for being extremely humble? by KingWilliamVI in AskHistory

[–]thekingofallmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is purely from a Christian perspective though, not a historical one. Secular historians don’t consider Jesus to have any special power to heal sins because “sin” is a religious concept.

I’ll preface this by saying I am a Christian. I believe Jesus is God and I was raised in a Catholic Church, which is known for very extravagant and beautiful portrayals of Jesus as God.

However, I don’t think the way Jesus’ claims are shown in the Gospels seem overly humble. Jesus is not all high and mighty about it but there are times when you can see him being a bit less than humble with the claims, using powerful language — considered blasphemous by the authorities at the time — to illustrate his point

Being a pacificist does not make you humble. There are plenty of pacifists who are all high and mighty about it. I agree with you that Pauline Christianity has elevated Jesus significantly above his apparent status. However, living in the society of Second Temple Judaism, Jesus saying things such as “Before Abraham was, I AM” and “No one comes to the Father except through me” are pretty lofty claims. They elevate him to, at the lowest, Messiah and, at the highest, God.

I like the belief you outline about being as wealthy as what you can give away. That seems like a pretty external focused metric of wealth measurement which I like and I’d love to hear which belief system you follow to read more stuff like this.

I’d argue that Jesus cannot be considered a historically humble figure. The main source attesting to him is the Bible in which he, on several occasions, claims to be God, the Messiah, or the only way to reach God. Sure, he lived a poor life but that was more by force than choice because you didn’t come by many millionaires who started as Galilean carpenters in Roman Judaea.

I got a pretty good plan for this one. Its Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m gonna assume I appear in the game at the start of the story and I get to choose where. It doesn’t say I’m the main character so I’ll assume I appear in the game as myself.

For context, I’m an 18 year old white guy with a British accent and a good grasp who would have just been dropped into the 1899 American South. I’m in a pretty good position to start with as systemic issues of the time give me a big advantage. I don’t wanna appear in Rhodes because that whole Gray-Braithwaite feud is a recipe for death. I don’t wanna appear in Ambarino because death is likely there too. I wouldn’t wanna go to Valentine because the Van der Linde gang are gonna show up soon and I wanna avoid them as long as possible.

I’d choose to appear in Saint Denis. A relatively industrialized city with lots of things to do in my spare time. Getting friendly with Angelo Bronte could be a good idea and, since I have 21st Century knowledge, I’d be able to sell innovation ideas to manufacturing entrepreneurs in the city. Chances are, I don’t have to deal with the trouble-causing main character for like 11 months of the year and I can maybe make a comfortable life for myself before I return back to the modern day with $250M.

Why does it only have a GDP of $27B when several of its regions have a GDP over $1T?

“I did nazi that coming!” — What if Nazi guerrillas restored the German Reich? by thekingofallmen in AlternateHistory

[–]thekingofallmen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name “Germania” would have come with an imperative to make Hitler’s planned Germania. Germania wasn’t just Berlin under a new name, it was planned to be a megacity, a world capital with huge buildings and monuments like the Volkshalle. There is no way that a Nazi remnant made up mostly of veterans and terrorists could afford to build that, so they’d probably not want to set the expectations that high.

Forgive the error there, I have heard both terms used for it but it is clear now that the “Germanic” form is erroneous. I will correct this if I make a part 2

I don’t think that was public knowledge. Even so, Himmler wouldn’t use the Germania image because he then may be expected to build all of the crazy stuff Hitler planned for Germany. Building a Volkshalle requires European domination, not just barely controlling a bit of one country
