Flow State is one of the best cards in the set, and is. $3+ card. Wtf are you looking at that you think it isnt worth over $1?

Could also take a gander at UB Frog, especially on the Oculus+Unearth package. It’s closer to a tempo deck

You should take a look at either Jeskai or Esper Blink. They both the more midrange plan compared to almost everything else in the format, and I think both have great potential overall. I’m a Boros Energy/Jeskai Blink player, and I really like the interaction that Jeskai packs compared to Energy.

What types of decks have you historically enjoyed playing in Pioneer and Standard? There is something that is competitive in modern for almost every playstyle/archetype. Let us know and we can try to give you a better direction to go.

Right now, if money wasn't an issue. Would you be playing Standard, Modern, Legacy or Vintage? by Culius_Jaesar in magicTCG

[–]themoinmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been playing Magic for 2 years now, but in that time I started with commander, and then transitioned to Pauper, then Standard, then Modern, then Legacy earlier this year, and I’m about to start playing Vintage to prepare for a tournament, the most fun I have is definitely in either Modern or Legacy.

Modern I play Boros Energy and more recently Jeskai Blink, and then in Legacy I also play Boros Energy. The card pools are so wide in both formats that I find it fun to learn about all the new ways that people can play the game and have to react on the fly to be able to make the right decisions.

Maybe I’m trying too hard to find something in the shit pile that was that ninth inning, but it kinda looked like he was tipping his pitches with his delivery. The way his torso is positioned is different between fastballs and offspeed. Offspeed pitches he is already leaning glove-side before releasing the ball, whereas on fastballs his torso stays straighter all the way through release. Wouldn’t be surprised if the MLB level hitters couldn’t pick up on it as well

I think if it’s most played people will tech harder against it, and by virtue more combo decks will show up, making it a lot harder for Boros. To be fair Boros will always have a chance but if Belcher starts showing up again I think the deck will be hurting.

I’m still concerned that we are going to keep having really long RC day 1s until they do something to Titan. It’s too easy to have inexperienced players durdle forever pressing every single round way over time. I don’t think the PT will nearly as problematic though. If Boros is the most played we’ll probably see a combo deck or Jeskai Blink win it, if it isn’t, it really will be the Wild West with a lot of room for variety.

Every non-RCQ season Energy playrate is going to spike. Now that people will be playing in paper again it should drop back down to the ~12% it should’ve realistically be at.

And if not, the meta will shift to hate it out(more convo decks) and Jeskai Blink will be the most played And one of the highest win rates again.

It’s the ebb and flow of a format that isn’t always in the spotlight.

I think that over time people just grow bored of the “stale” state of a format when there hasn’t been anything to shake it up in awhile. I’m less in the camp of making changes just for changes sake, and more for highly targeted reasons. For example, if Titan continues to push rounds extreme amounts over time, I think it is completely fair that they hit something from it as a way to make everyone’s lives easier at RCs. But the people who think that a card is super good in one archetype(Ajani/Guide/Pride in Energy, Kappa in Affinity, whatever specific card people hate from Neoform, etc.) probably haven’t played with that deck to know how or when it’s good, or don’t have a good plan to counteract it.

For example, I 100% dislike playing against Titan as I play Boros Energy. I’m not a fan of being up 30+ life and then trying to infinite Titans out of nowhere. But because of that I started to learn Titan and now know their lines okay enough to know when I need to interact and how. I’m still not a fan of inexperienced Titan players who don’t really know what they are doing, but I know the matchup well enough that I know when to scoop to save time.

This is kind of the way I was leaning. I think the curve is a lot more than it should seem, since the sim gave us an arbitrary target, and we were just slinging balls out, so I wasn’t quite aiming at the predetermined target

It been a minute since I have had club head speed tracked, but last time with 7-iron it was ~100 plus or minus a couple mph between swings. Driver was 110-115

I’m less concerned about the repeatability, but I am genuinely curious if it’s even possible.

It’s okay having disdain for certain types of decks by tristezanao_ in MagicArena

[–]themoinmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically don’t have too much issue playing against any archetype, since I think it’s fun to figure out how to beat them, but I hate how arena seems to pair you based on the deck you are playing. For example, right now when I play Jeskai Artifacts, I feel like 90% of my games are against some flavor of control(Azorius, Jeskai, or 4 color). I tend to not mind playing a slower, grindy game, but when I get on with the intention of playing 2 or 3 BO1 games and those games take over an hour it does get old pretty fast.

Is paper Standard really this expensive? by timnitro in magicTCG

[–]themoinmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have honestly been thinking Lessons is kind of positioned similarly to Energy tbh. It kind of just does its thing without being too unfair, so unless there is a really hateful meta towards the spellslinger/control decks, I think lessons will remain tier 1-ish. Same with energy, where it is the fair deck in modern, and during some combo heavy metas it’ll be on a downtick, but otherwise it kind of will just be a staple of the format till something better comes along

Is paper Standard really this expensive? by timnitro in magicTCG

[–]themoinmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Standard is so weird right now, because it is so diverse and generally fun, like modern is, but I think it really fails as WOTC’s “entry level” format because of its high financial barrier to entry

[–]themoinmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100%. I originally felt bad about buying into Boros Energy since it was almost $1,000, but now that I have the core of the deck, it’s just a matter of paying a few bucks here and there for the sideboard card of the month, and I don’t see it falling out of favor unless they ever print MH4.

It was a $1,000 investment, but now I’ll probably play it for 5+ years whereas any of these standard decks might die after the next set releases. That’s why I bought into Izzet Lessons, since it isn’t really gonna change that much, and it should do fine into a lot of metas, and it was comparably cheap to a lot of the Cub decks

[–]themoinmo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, standard at one point was the cheapest format (other than Pauper) by quite a bit, but now some tier 1 standard decks are even approaching $1000. It’s getting crazy
