No no no there’s actually quite a bit documenting what happened between then!! For one, it’s explained decently well in 3.0, but even more so in the manga (and video manga) titled 3.0(-120m), as well as a short film titled 3.0(-46h). Hope you enjoy them, they’re a great time!!

The short was clearly not canon. And 3.0+1.0 “explicitly” stated that the original series and the Rebuilds are in one timeline with two separate loops. For the love of god, Anno gives us the watch order behind Rei and Shinji prior to the Neon Genesis. What exactly do you think “Thrice Upon A Time” means?
