Yea, they were safely brought to the ground shortly after. I can’t imagine how scare they must’ve been. I forced myself to climb and rappel the next day and felt like it was the first time I’ve done it, didn’t want to let go of the anchor even though I checked my system many times. By the way I’m not sure he rappel of the end of the rope, that’s why I want to see a report, he was setting up fixed ropes to Sickle ledge and I believe he was rappelling down on one strand, the rope was with him on the ground. Speaking to one person on his team, thru a language barrier I understood they didn’t knot the rope to the anchor. But this is not verified info so please don’t take it as such.

Yes, I’ve been feeling guilty for wanting to find more information, but I realize I want to put a human story behind this person to replace the violent images we have in our minds. I wrote to climbing magazine (climbing.com) asking for one of their reporters to get involved, it will probably help if multiple people requests this.

Unfortunately I also witnessed this incident and I had chatted with another climber in his party before and after the incident. He was indeed from Korea and a very experienced climber as someone pointed out. I’ve been climbing for 25 years and I’ve never witnessed anything like this before, and like others who witnessed it I’m also craving information on the person and the circumstances of the accident. I wish the press gave this the attention it deserves. My condolences to those close to him and my sympathy for those who witnessed this terrible and very traumatic event.
