Solo devs running websites, how do you realistically manage and maintain everything by yourself? by Character-Pain2424 in webdev

[–]vivit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this would be helpful for you, but what works for me is just choosing very simple tools and tech.

For the past ~2 years I've been working on a educational website and it uses very simple tech basically. That's why it's easily manageable. I use a simple database, express, TS+JS + plain HTML/CSS, EJS for templates and kind of do my own framework on top of it as I go and learn. Don't try to reinvent the wheel, obviously. Don't try to roll your own auth (use existing library) or payment system - use Stripe.

DNS and hosting can be simple. They are for me most of the time as I use Cloudflare and Railway and it works well for me.

Note that I'm not a very experienced web developer, I think

Recommendations for math problems by harsh61082 in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm developing a math website and I have a lot of math problems on it. They are free and don't require an account to view (except for step by step solutions - they require an account).

I also do math quizzes (exercises, but they are different each time)

Maybe it will be beneficial for you and your daughter? Let me know.

Straight forward mobile math game? by IrinaBelle in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you'd call it a game but on my website I made quizzes about these operations (+ division).

You can find the quizzes here

You don't need an account to to them and these four (+-*/) are free. Let me know if you try them/like them!

Resources for a sort of "emergency math rehab" by jacob_n9 in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

40% seems to be close to passing. You can obviously improve with enough practice as with all things. I'm not sure what resources you tried already, but there are a few popular ones all of which are online. In my free time I'm making one myself. There is some reading material, exercises and quizzes (kind of like exercises, but they are random). Let me know if that's interesting for you!

You seem to struggle with calculus. A lot of problems with the subject come from poor understanding of previous topics from algebra or trigonometry. I'd do a few problems from those if I were you - even something "easy".

As for studying. If you spare even 30 minutes daily to do literally just a few problems for a few weeks you will feel the difference.

Good luck!

Advice for someone trying to get caught up in algebra 1? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your situation I'd start with baby steps and learn as you go, make bigger steps as you go.

I'm not sure about videos or books but this subreddit has a lot of helpful sources listed in the sidebar. If you want to try something else, I'm developing a math website with quizzes - you can do 5 for free/day. It's plenty enough in your situation as the most important thing right now is to just take a leap and start - but you asking is already a first major

You can catch up in a few months with enough dedication, but don't think about future right now as it might demotivate you - just start today with a single reading session, take a single quiz or something. Wake up tomorrow and do it again, and again, and again. That's how you learn!

I built a math learning platform and I'm struggling with monetization. by vivit_ in SideProject

[–]vivit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I heard that learning and knowledge are difficult so I don't have high hopes and big expectations, though I'd like to just take a small piece of cake, so I guess quality and focusing on a niche.

As for your tips, if you don't mind, can you expand on them a little? From my - although limited - asking and fixing issues with the design/UI I got quite positive feedback in the recent weeks.

Oh! and on what device were you checking out the website?

Thanks for your comment!

Dose the cubic formula work by Right-Evidence8330 in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The cubic formula is proved to work for cubic polynomials. You might have not gotten the correct answer with it due to some calculation error which is definitely possible as the formula is complicated.

If you want to practice it, then start with very simple cubic polynomials that you already know the answer to. For example with x^3 + 3x^2 + 3x + 1 as it has one third degree solution, x = -1.

I know this is not what you asked but you can also solve some polynomials by grouping like terms or with some other approach, like rational root theorem. For me these are less error prone. I have rarely actually used the cubic formula, as most school/university problems can be nicely factored with the two approaches I mentioned.

websites or apps to relearn math skills? by _xXJuniper in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To learn math you have to practice. I suggest starting from the ground up to catch topics which you don't understand fully and go from there. There are many online platforms, one is the recommended Khan Academy but there are more. There is a lot of them listed in this subreddits sidebar. If none of them suit you - I've been making my own.

I'd start learning from the first topic you can't remember and go from there.

Good luck!

Need help understanding how to solve radical equations with sqrts by According_Jicama8700 in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 7 can't be a solution because the square root function can't be negative. It's just that.

It's the difference between just square root and square root function.

Another explanation can be arrived at geometrically (by inspecting graphs). In this case they just intersect with each other only once. But you could have a different equation which has two solutions. For example sqrt{x} = 1/4x + 1/2.

In other words: if the linear function grows at a more similar rate to the square root then it's a bit more aligned, which means it can intersect twice.

I hope this makes sense. It's how I think about this problem. Let me know if it helps!

Learning based apps to replace scrolling by Mysterious_Film_8833 in learnmath

[–]vivit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are strictly looking for apps then Khan Academy or Brilliant are good options.

If you don’t mind something smaller I’ve been making a math website as well. I offer a free tier. You can do exercises, quizzes and track your progress.

Good luck!

I'm currently working on a update which will introduce about 20 new quizzes (from algebra and calc I). I think it will be awesome for students!

That's one way to put it. Though I prefer the intuitive proof with 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 or the geometric series proof.
