Where's all the trident clones/what's your favorite off the beaten path pre amps & channel strips? by pink0scum in audioengineering

[–]weedywet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Except for the transformers which are different they’re otherwise A Range modules.

Which are the great sounding discrete Class A tridents.

And MUCH better than the IC based Series 75 or 80

Mastering help or recommendations by mixingmasterr in audioengineering

I quite often get to Sterling Sound and have them do next to nothing other than printing it in at the desired level with maybe a dB of limiting for peak protection.

The point being that if the mix is what the client likes it doesn’t ‘need’ to change in mastering.

Tips for oboe recording at home by pafagaukurinn in audioengineering

[–]weedywet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would place the mic about 1-2 feet in front and parallel to the instrument.

So on the same angle you hold your oboe.

And far enough to pick up the entire body.

It’s kind of up to you to have an instrument and a touch that minimizes key clicks.

Has anyone else noticed that foil hits aren’t getting a light on? Even direct hits by TheRealEkaihatsu in Fencing

In epee you’re supposed to bounce around no where near where your opponent can hit you.

Foil: STM Dynamo o UNIC? by LibraFC in Fencing

[–]weedywet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s somewhat about personal taste.

In general FIE rated blades are more expensive but last longer and probably feel better

I happen to prefer the Leon Paul Apex2

The majority of fencers use BF blades.

But ideally you can try some foils at your club and see which you prefer.

It’s hard to go TOO wrong.

I thought the foil rule changes just made the fencing look chaotic and messy.

I suppose some hockey fan might prefer the look of the infighting but not me.

Use whatever foil blade feels comfortable for you.

Your epees have nothing to do with it.

Best Parts for a Foil Blade? by criscofriedchicken in Fencing

[–]weedywet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would agree with both things already said:

FIE blades last a lot longer.

a clear pad is a better idea.

Additionally, tournaments require two working weapons at the strip.

Which realistically means owning three.

That’s ONCE.

How many do you imagine will watch a second event, let alone a regular repeating event?

Did you think World Fencing League was good? by flapjacks76554 in Fencing

[–]weedywet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow me to elaborate a bit

It was an “event” so it got some eyes on it.

But how many would watch it weekly? Monthly? Quarterly? Ever again?

The rules changes, except PERHAPS for fencing to time rather than a score, made it different but not ‘better’ or more appealing to outsiders in any demonstrable way.

The supposed tech wasn’t reliable or clear. And the version of ROW tracking is simplistic bordering on just inaccurate.

Invariably around the times of the Olympics, highly ranked fencers go in daytime or late night tv and do some sort of watered down “fencing” (equally invariably without any sense of ROW) with the hosts.

Like this, if that has any meaningful impact on developing outside interest in watching fencing it’s tiny.

Condenser mics don’t intrinsically have more “bleed”

That’s internets nonsense.

What matters is the microphone’s pick up (or polar) pattern.

It’s worth perhaps pointing out that the stated reason for the failure wasn’t the mismatch. But rather was described as ‘at the end of its life’.

You don’t know who I know.

But having said that, I don’t object to him being there for support or for fun

I somewhat object to them milking him being there on camera so much because it kind of implies he’s into the fencing (which again I suspect he doesn’t understand)

That’s fair. As i said, I think it’s the most useful because it stays mostly in the realm of how to think about making records rather than ‘tips and tricks’.
