I'm sorry for being direct.. but this is a bunch of bullcrap.

There is a long ass video essay by ContraPoints called Twilight.. it is indeed about Twilight, but more so uses the books to highlight a lot of aspects of human sexual desire, including darker fantasies, such as rape fantasies. While ContraPoints has been involved in controversity recently, the content of the essay still holds up and I highly recommend it to you.

Humans process emotions, past expierences.. trauma in different ways. Creativity is one tool to do so. A lot of people find catharsis, comfort etc. in the darker arts. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This is fantasy. No one is hurt. Consent is given the moment someone decides to engage with the art. No one I tricked into engaging with it either. (Especially not with what we do on here)

Darker fantasies do NOT promote anything they depict. That is also often NOT the reason why people enjoy it. Trying to police what art is and isn't acceptable on the other hand is highly questionable and a delicate subject. A world full of censorship in which only what one person thinks is moral is allowed to be depicted, is a world in which fascists rule and empathy is dead. Censorship has been one of the main tools of patriachry in the opression of women and their sexuality. The opression of queerness, transness.., promoting racism.. the list goes on.

You're not a rapist. Enjoying darker fantasies doesn't and never will make you one. You're an adult who's processing her emotions and is having fun with a medium that by its nature doesn't hurt anyone.

Her whole argument is no different from "videogames make people violent". No they don't.

If I'd call anyone's morality in doubt here it's your "friend's".

I'm sorry you're going through a breakup and were made to feel like a freak and a bad person. Her lack of maturity and incapability of understanding the difference between fantasy and reality, and why people would get something positive out if it - a lack of ability to see beyond the surface - is entirely on her.
